Closer Watch
New York Mets - LaTroy Hawkins breezed through a perfect ninth inning against the Rockies on Thursday with 11 pitches to earn his second save in three days. The 40-year-old has somehow improved his K/BB ratio to 4.11 this season (from 1.77 a year ago), the highest it's been since 2004. His fastball is still sitting at a respectable 92.3 mph, and he's serving up his curveball far less, relying more on the changeup. Until his performance dictates otherwise, it appears Hawkins will be the the closer while Bobby Parnell (neck) is on the shelf, which could be for the rest of the season if Parnell elects for surgery.

Recommended Pickup
Robbie Grossman, OF, HOU - Since his July 26 recall to the majors, Grossman has been one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball, with a .472 average, three home runs, 10 runs scored, nine RBI and four steals in the team's last 10 games. He's hit safely in all 10 of those contests, with six multi-hit efforts. The Astros figure to give the 23-year-old switch-hitter a serious look over the final months, so he should get to keep playing left field on an everyday basis, while likely batting near the top of the order. The production is bound to level off, but Grossman has already shown he can contribute across the board.
