Signs NRI contract with Indians
Quiroz signed a minor league contract with the Indians on Monday that includes an invitation to major league spring training.
ANALYSIS
The journeyman catcher spent the 2016 season with the Indians' Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, and even posted a .761 OPS in 75 games there. That being said, Quiroz is 34 years old and has never produced very much at the major league level, so he'll likely spend another season as organizational depth unless something major happens to Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez.

If you look up "organizational depth" in the dictionary, you will see Quiroz's picture, right next to Corky Miller's. The 33-year-old Quiroz has spent parts of 11 seasons at the Triple-A level (15 total seasons in the minors) and has logged more than 100 plate appearances just once in the major leagues. Just a .199/.256/.277 career hitter at the highest level, he likely never exceed 100 plate appearances ever again. Quiroz has posted double-digit homers just once as a professional, but his veteran experience and serviceable defense behind the plate give him some value to MLB organizations. The Giants re-signed him to another minor league deal in November, but Quiroz will again be nothing more than a last-resort option behind Buster Posey, Andrew Susac and Hector Sanchez.
