Steps in at UFC Mexico
StrawweightUFC
January 14, 2025
Jauregui will take on Julia Polastri in a strawweight battle at UFC Mexico on March 29, CC Legaspi of ESPN Deportes reports.
ANALYSIS
Jauregui steps in on a bit late notice as a replacement for Dione Barbosa (undisclosed), but with the fight more than two months out, she should still be able to get a normal camp in. She sports a 3-2 record in the UFC, most recently falling to Ketlen Souza via first-round submission in December. Polastri, meanwhile, sports a 1-1 record after a pair of appearances on Contender Series, most recently picking up her first win over Cory McKenna via split decision in October. On paper, Jauregui holds a one-inch advantage in both height and reach. Both are higher-volume strikers.

Falls as massive favorite
StrawweightUFC
September 14, 2024
Jauregui lost to Ketlen Souza via technical submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:02 of Round 1 at UFC 306 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Entering as an overwhelming -525 favorite, Jauregui looked fine for the first couple minutes before getting destroyed with a left hand. Souza took full advantage, following her opponent to the mat and choking her out in an instant. The 25-year-old Jauregui had plenty of hype behind her when she made her August 2022 UFC debut, but she's now suffered first-round stoppage defeats in two of her past three fights. Yazmin is young enough to figure things out, but nothing we've seen inside the Octagon thus far suggests that will be happening.
Slated to fight Souza
StrawweightUFC
July 3, 2024
Jauregui will take on Ketlen Souza in a strawweight bout at UFC 306 in Las Vegas on Sept. 14, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Jauregui is coming off a bounce-back victory that pushed her record in the UFC to 3-1-0, besting Sam Hughes in February via unanimous decision. Souza, meanwhile, is also coming off a win, having fought more recently (April 27th). Both fighters will look to continue the positive momentum early in their UFC careers.
Gets right back in win column
StrawweightUFC
February 24, 2024
Jauregui defeated Sam Hughes via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a 20-second knockout loss to Denise Gomes as a -400 favorite last July, Jauregui had no such issues at -650 here. Yazmin shut down the wrestling game of Hughes, stuffing all six of her takedown attempts and leaving openings for her to hammer her overmatched opponent on the feet. Jauregui struggles to generate secondary forms of offense, but she hits very hard for the strawweight division, as evidenced by her seven career wins via knockout. She remains one of the brightest prospects around at 115 pounds.
Will fight Hughes
StrawweightUFC
December 22, 2023
Jauregui will take on Sam Hughes at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, according to Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Jauregui holds a 10-1 record and is one of the biggest names in the straw category. She'll be hungry for this bout, as she's coming off a disappointing loss to Denise Gomes via TKO in July.
Destroyed as huge favorite
StrawweightUFC
July 8, 2023
Jauregui lost to Denise Gomes via TKO (punches) at 0:20 of Round 1 at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Entering as upwards of a -400 favorite, Jauregui got clipped with an immediate combination and was never able to recover despite being given a generous amount of time by referee Jason Herzog. Jauregui began her UFC run with victories over Istela Nunes (TKO) and Iasmin Lucindo (unanimous decision), but it's difficult to make it three in a row when you fail to land a single strike. The lone bit of good news for Jauregui is that she's still just 24 years of age and has plenty of time to rebound from this setback.
