Earns late-notice debut win

Smotherman defeated Jake Hadley via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In for Brady Hiestand (undisclosed) on just days' notice, Smotherman went out and put forth an excellent, wholly-unexpected performance. He didn't overwhelm Hadley but appeared calm and comfortable at all times. He was clearly going to win a decision, but the scorecards become more lopsided after Hadley was docked a point for repeated eye pokes. While the result is great, it remains to be seen how much of this is sustainable. Our lone exposure to Smotherman prior to this bout was on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2023, and he was knocked out by Charalampos Grigoriou in exactly a minute that evening.

Smotherman is scheduled to compete against Jake Hadley in a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 99 on Oct. 19, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman is a 27-year-old bantamweight the UFC signed so that he can fight Jake Hadley, who was expected to compete against Brady Hiestand (undisclosed) before the latter withdrew from their Oct. 19 bout. The replacement is 11-4 with six KO/TKOs and three straight wins as part of his latest streak. For his first UFC fight, Smotherman takes on a fighter 1-1 across 2024 thus far.
