Troy Franklin

21-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Denver Broncos
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Hyped as a likely Day 1 or 2 draft pick, Franklin ended up falling to the fourth round, where Denver made an aggressive trade-up to take him with the second pick of Day 3 (102nd overall). The move pairs him with his college quarterback, Bo Nix, who helped Franklin break Oregon's single-season records for receiving yards (1,383), receiving TDs (14) and 100-yard games (eight). Franklin also holds the program record for career receiving TDs (25) and consecutive games with a reception (30, dating back to his true freshman season), and it's not like he embarrassed himself at the 2024 Combine (4.41 40 and 39-inch vertical). His other workout numbers were less impressive, however, especially for one of the thinnest WR prospects we've seen over the past few decades (6-2, 176). The lanky build and lack of strength largely explain why NFL teams were so skeptical of an early declare with huge college production who will be 21 years old his entire rookie season. Franklin's youth means there are better odds for him to add significant weight once he's in an NFL strength program, though it might cost him speed and agility. He at least has a clear path to playing time if he proves he belongs, with Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick (ACL) and 2023 second-round pick Marvin Mims being the other candidates for Denver's No. 2 receiver job opposite Courtland Sutton. Hauls in long TD in wild-card loss
WRDenver Broncos
January 12, 2025
Franklin caught two of three targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-7 wild-card round loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The rookie wideout got behind the Buffalo secondary for a 43-yard score on Denver's first possession, but it proved to be the only points the visitors would manage to produce. Franklin came into the NFL with more intrigue than a typical fourth-round pick given that he was reuniting with his college QB, but while Bo Nix thrived in his debut campaign, his top target at Oregon had trouble gaining separation against pro defenders. Sunday's long TD offered a reminder of Franklin's potential, but even if the young WR heads into training camp physically ready for a Year 2 breakout -- he doesn't turn 22 until early February -- target volume could still be hard to come by as the No. 3 or No. 4 option in the passing game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Sizable target share in NFL debut?
WRDenver Broncos
September 14, 2024
Franklin could see more looks from quarterback Bo Nix in Week 2 after Devaughn Vele was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Steelers due to an rib injury.
ANALYSIS
Franklin was a healthy scratch for the Broncos' Week 1 loss to the Seahawks, but he will suit up for Week 2 with Vele sidelined. Vele saw eight targets from Nix in the regular-season opener, and Franklin could be the beneficiary of more opportunities if the Steelers defense hones in on wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Josh Reynolds. Franklin played with Nix in college at Oregon, and the duo's chemistry should be useful against a formidable Pittsburgh secondary.
