2024 Fantasy Outlook
Hubbard did the improbable and sent Miles Sanders to the bench last year even after Carolina gave the former Eagle a four-year, $25.4 million contract. Hubbard didn't exactly set the league on fire, averaging 3.8 yards per carry, but he was mostly impressive when you factor in how bad the Panthers offense was. Even with his 2023 accomplishments noted, Hubbard's fantasy value took a major hit when the Panthers made Jonathon Brooks (knee) the first running back selected in the 2024 Draft. The Panthers took Brooks at No. 46 overall with the intention of making him their starting running back at some point, though not necessarily right away as he completes his rehab from an ACL tear suffered in November. While solid as a runner, Hubbard is particularly vulnerable to Brooks on passing downs. Hubbard has improved his pass catching considerably since dropping seven of 37 targets as a rookie, but it's still a relative weakness for him and a strength for the incoming rookie. Could see workload grow sans Brooks
Hubbard has an unimpeded path to close out the 2024 campaign in a workhorse role out of the backfield for Carolina, with Jonathan Brooks (knee) having suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has established himself as the clear No. 1 option leading the Panthers' rushing attack this season, and he rushed 26 times for 92 yards and one touchdown versus Philadelphia, but there had been an assumption that Brooks' involvement would ramp up down the stretch. With the rookie second-round pick having re-torn his right ACL, though, Carolina's roster no longer features anyone even resembling a threat to Hubbard's dominant share of reps. Raheem Blackshear (chest) is considered day-to-day, while veteran Miles Sanders (ankle) won't be eligible to come off IR until Week 16 against Arizona, at the earliest. Head coach Dave Canales said practice-squad player Mike Boone currently is in line to handle the No. 2 role behind Hubbard at practice and potentially Week 15 versus Dallas, per Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

Hubbard teamed with D'Onta Foreman to handle the rushing attack for the Panthers after Christian McCaffrey was traded last year. Following a midseason ankle injury, Hubbard totaled 490 yards in the last six games and averaged 5.0 yards per rush. Foreman is gone, but the signing of Miles Sanders to a four-year, $25.4 million contract makes certain that Hubbard won't be Carolina's starting running back in his third NFL season. However, the 2021 fourth-round pick might have an advantage over Sanders when it comes to pass catching -- a task Sanders struggled with in Philadelphia after his 2019 rookie season. Neither player is as good a receiver as likely RB3 Raheem Blackshear, but Hubbard at least improved last year, generating 1.66 yards per route run (89th percentile).

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Sharing backfield with rookie
Hubbard will be joined in Carolina's backfield by rookie Jonathon Brooks in Week 12 against the Chiefs, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has earned the lead role in Carolina by rushing for 818 yards in 10 games. He could see his workload scaled back down the stretch, though, as the Panthers will likely try to get Brooks involved considering they spent a second-round selection on Brooks in the 2024 NFL Draft. Hubbard has averaged 16.1 rushing attempts per game while Brooks has spent the season recovering from a torn ACL up to this point. Coach Dave Canales confirmed that Brooks won't be on a pitch count Sunday against the Chiefs.
