2024 Fantasy Outlook
Undrafted out of Virginia Tech in 2022, Blackshear has seen limited opportunities the last two seasons. He lacks the size to be an every-down workhorse, but he showed a three-down skill set in college and could be a useful depth option in the NFL. It's impossible to understate how the Panthers' poor offensive line play has kept him from showing it, however. He's averaged only 1.8 yards before contact per rush in his career, which would have been a bottom-10 mark in 2023. The addition of Jonathon Brooks in the 2024 Draft just puts another obstacle in Blackshear's way. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Downgraded to out
Blackshear (chest) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
The absence of Blackshear considerably limits the backfield options for the Panthers, as Jonathon Brooks (knee) and Miles Sanders (ankle) are also on injured reserve. Mike Boone, who was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, is expected to serve as the backup to Chuba Hubbard, although Velus Jones could also compete for touches.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
As an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech, Blackshear played 13 games last season. Featuring as the Panthers' third-string running back, he rushed 23 times for 77 yards and three touchdowns, while catching 10 of 12 targets for 93 more yards. Blackshear also was a factor as a kick and punt returner. With offseason signing Miles Sanders and veteran holdover Chuba Hubbard expected to fill Carolina's top two running back roles, Blackshear figures to compete for similar depth and utility duties in 2023.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could back up Sanders
Blackshear has the chance to be the primary backup to Miles Sanders this season, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackshear spent the 2022 season as Carolina's primary kick returner, and he showed explosiveness by averaging 27 yards per return. His role on offense could grow in 2023, as he reportedly impressed coach Frank Reich during offseason team activities. Chuba Hubbard is widely viewed as the top backup to Sanders, but Blackshear may have the chance to wrestle the role away during training camp.
