ANALYSIS
After being selected by the Celtics with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Nogueira had his rights traded to the Hawks. He remained overseas for another year before making the move to North America ahead of the 2014-15 following his trade to the Raptors. The 28-year-old center ended up spending four seasons with the Raptors, appearing in 141 games (10 starts) and averaging 3.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per contest. Since becoming a free agent and leaving the NBA following the 2017-18 season, Nogueira has played with three foreign clubs, with his most recent action coming in his home country of Brazil.

2014
In his third year with the Raptors, Nogueira was finally able to garner a role in the regular rotation, averaging 19.1 minutes over 57 games, which was more than double the 7.8 minutes he saw during his sophomore season. However, it didn't necessarily result in a big increase in production, as he added just 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks, while shooting 66 percent from the floor. The addition of Serge Ibaka at the trade deadline was particularly damaging, as Nogueira ended up playing in just nine of 32 games from Mar. 1 through the end of the playoffs. With Ibaka re-signing to a three-year, $65 million contract and Jonas Valanciunas returning as well, Nogueira will have to battle with the likes of Jakob Poeltl and Pascal Siakam for the leftovers off the bench at both power forward and center. The departure of Patrick Patterson could open up a few extra minutes, but Nogueira's role is still unlikely to expand much in his fourth NBA season.
The giant Brazilian with the giant hair barely made an impression on the court during his rookie season, averaging just four minutes, 1.0 point, 1.8 rebounds, and zero blocks in six games off the end of the Raptors' bench, but the team is still very high on his future. Just shy of seven feet tall, Nogueira has the athleticism to someday be an effective rim protector and defensive presence in the paint, a potential highlighted by his offseason performance when he recorded the second-most rebounds in the Las Vegas Summer League despite limited playing time. The 23-year-old will likely spend the majority of this season suiting up alongside countryman Bruno Caboclo for the Raptors' new D-League affiliate in Mississauga, a Toronto suburb, but if he continues to develop at his current rate, he could find himself back in the NBA in short order.
On his third NBA organization before he's even played a game in the NBA, Nogueira had his European contract bought out after the Hawks dealt him to the Raptors, and he'll make his North American debut this season. Possessing good size and athleticism, the 22-year-old Brazilian was named the best defender in Spain's top league last season, and he should be able to develop into an effective shot-blocker once he gets acclimated to the Association. That process should be a bit smoother thanks to the presence of fellow Brazilian rookie, and first-round pick, Bruno Caboclo on the Raptors' roster. Nogueira's positivity and passion for the game (not to mention his giant hairdo) have already drawn notice from his more veteran teammates. Jonas Valanciunas has the starting center spot locked up in Toronto, so Nogueira will need to earn his minutes off the bench, but he appears to be yet another young, hungry, high-upside asset on a Toronto roster looking to build on last season's surprising postseason appearance.
