Wednesday is an action packed night in the NBA, with 20 teams on display.. There's action across the board, with some excellent match-ups, underpriced injury replacements and marquee players in pride-pulling situations that could cause them to perform even better than their norm.
GUARDS
John Wall, WAS at LAL ($10,200): Wall is doing his usual high volume routine this year, averaging 24.3 points with 10 assists, three rebounds and 2.7 combined steals/blocks through three games. He also has an excellent matchup with a poor Lakers team. It's on the road, however, which could perhaps keep the game close enough for Wall to play into the fourth quarter.
Victor Oladipo, IND at OKC ($7,800): Oladipo has taken over as the primary perimeter threat for the Pacers, averaging 23.8 points with 4.5 boards, 3.5 assists and 3.0 combined steals/blocks through four games. On Wednesday, he visits his old stomping grounds as he returns to face the Thunder, the team that traded him this offseason, in a potential revenge game.
Mike James, PHO vs UTA ($4,300):Dejounte Murray ($5,900) is actually the safer bet to produce, but his price is edging up and he's well known at this point. James just took over as the starting point guard in Phoenix last game, after Eric Bledsoe's infamous tweet about not wanting to be here (whether "here" meant Phoenix, or a hair salon, is still in question). James played well in his first game against the Kings, notching 18 points and seven assists in 26 minutes, but it must be acknowledged that the Jazz will be a much tougher challenge.
FORWARDS
Paul George, OKC vs IND ($8,700): Like Victor Oladipo, George is also playing high-level ball for his new team, averaging 21.3 points, 5.7 boards, 3.7 assists and 3.6 combined blocks/steals through three games. Also like Oladipo, George will be facing his old team for the first time since the trade. George likely won't have revenge on his mind, though, since he's the one that wanted to leave.
Otto Porter, WAS at LAL ($7,500): Porter has been playing some of the best basketball of his life to start the season, getting extra responsibility with Markieff Morris and Jason Smith sidelined. Through three games, he is averaging 18.3 points with 9.0 rebounds, 3.7 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. He has an excellent matchup with a Lakers team that plays fast and loose on offense with little resistance on the other end.
Domantas Sabonis, IND at OKC ($4,800): Sabonis has been starting in place of Myles Turner (concussion), and he's been playing very well. In his last two games, Sabonis has averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 28 minutes with double-doubles in each game. Turner's availability for Wednesday hasn't been announced yet, but if he sits then Sabonis makes for another strong value play.
CENTERS
Andre Drummond, DET vs MIN ($8,500): Two years ago I drove to Auburn Hills to watch the Timberwolves against the Pistons live. In that game, physical monster Drummond dominated the talented but extremely young Karl-Anthony Towns by just being too big, strong and fast in the paint. Towns has grown, but Drummond repeated his big performance against him last season and has a good chance to triple-down this Wednesday.
Dwight Howard, CHA vs DEN ($7,900): Howard is partying like it's 2010 so far this season, grabbing 17.3 rebounds per game to go with 12.7 points and 2.3 blocks. Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is very talented, but not much threat to keep Howard off the glass or slow him from scoring.
Jakob Poeltl, TOR at GS ($4,900): Poeltl has gotten extra run with both Jonas Valanciunas and Lucas Nogueira battling ankle issues. In his last two games, Poeltl has averaged 12 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in 21 minutes per game. Wednesday is a tough matchup against the Warriors, but Poeltl's performance so far earns him consideration, even against the Dubs.
