Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Sunday is the final day of the MLB regular season, which, frankly makes things difficult for daily fantasy purposes. How long will starting pitchers go? Heck, in some games it's somewhat murky who is even going to start. Guys could sit, or be pulled early. It could get weird, but don't miss your last opportunity to play a full slate of games. Every game starts within 20 minutes of 3 p.m. EDT, so if your lineup isn't in by then, you're out of luck. Here are my recommendations.

STARTING PITCHER

Robbie Ray, ARI at SD ($41): Ray's numbers are ugly at home, but on the road he has a 2.95 ERA. There is arguably no better park to start a road game in than Petco. Additionally, there are fewer matchups better than the Padres. San Diego's .297 OBP as a team is the lowest in baseball.

Roenis Elias, SEA vs. TEX ($25): Elias has mostly pitched out of the bullpen this year, but he does have a 2.93 ERA in 46.0 innings. He's also allowed only one home run all season. The Rangers are a different, and worse, offense on the road, as away from their ballpark they have a .224 batting average.

CATCHER

Tucker Barnhart, CIN vs. PIT ($7): Barnhart's numbers dropped from last season, though he does have a career-high 10 homers. That said, at home his numbers have actually been just fine, as he has a .823 OPS in Cincinnati. Steven Brault is projected to start for the Pirates, and he has a 5.02 FIP.

FIRST BASE

Tyler Austin, MIN vs. CWS ($13): Austin doesn't have a great batting average, but he does have power. He's managed 17 homers in only 68 games, and he has a .480 slugging percentage. At home that slugging percentage actually increases to .550. Meanwhile, Dylan Covey has a 6.00 ERA on the road.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA vs. TEX ($19): Perhaps that time off this season did Cano well, as he's been hot down the stretch. Over his last 28 games he has a .995 OPS with five home runs. Yovani Gallardo's 6.40 ERA is an eyesore as is, but on the road his ERA balloons to a staggering 8.57.

THIRD BASE

Mike Moustakas, MIL vs. DET ($15): Moustakas has had a solid season across his stints with both the Royals and the Brewers, as he has 28 homers. He's done particularly well against righties, as 22 of his home runs have come in those matchups, and he has a .487 slugging percentage versus right-handers. Spencer Turnbull has very limited MLB experience, but he also has a 5.74 ERA. Besides, if he couldn't crack Detroit's rotation until so late in the year, his upside is probably limited.

SHORTSTOP

Willy Adames, TAM vs. TOR ($15): The 22-year-old Adames has had a solid season for a rookie shortstop. He's slashed .275/.346/.405 through 84 games. Sam Gaviglio has been alarmingly bad on the road, as he has a 7.91 away ERA. He's also allowed 1.60 homers per nine innings.

OUTFIELD

Brandon Nimmo, NYM vs. MIA ($16): Nimmo is usually a smart option when a righty is on the mound. He has a .941 OPS in those matchups. Additionally, this season he has 17 homers and nine stolen bases. Sandy Alcantara is the right-handed starter in question, and he has a 5.72 FIP.

Daniel Palka, CWS at MIN ($16): Palka is another lefty bat who smashes right-handers. He has a .535 slugging percentage in those matchups with 25 homers. Zach Littell has pitched fairly well at the Triple-A level, but in the majors he has a 6.57 FIP.

Corey Dickerson, PIT at CIN ($15): It feels like Dickerson has been overlooked this season, but he's had a fine season in his inaugural run with the Pirates. He has a .300 batting average, and in September he has a .932 OPS. Sal Romano spent some time in the bullpen, but he still has a 5.03 FIP and has allowed 1.47 homers per nine innings.
