Closer Watch
Red Sox: Andrew Bailey has officially been re-instated off of the disabled list. Bailey, the former Athletics closer who has a career 2.07 ERA over three seasons, has missed all of 2012 after undergoing surgery on his thumb in the offseason. He will not be given the Boston closers job immediately; for now, Alfredo Alceves wil remain in that role. However, if he proves to be the pitcher he has been so far in his career, a closer change in Boston may not be far off.

Recommended Pickup
Eric Young, Jr., OF, COL: Eric Young, Sr. was never heralded as a great prospect. When he first was called up to the majors he struggled for his first three years before hitting it big in his fourth season. It didn't help that he got a bit of a late start in his major league career with his first trip to the majors coming in his age-25 season. However, after breaking out in his fourth season, Young went on to have a very productive--and, at times, great--career.

Young's son seems poised to be on the same path. Young, Jr. had not been heralded as a top prospect after being drafted in the 30th round of the 2003 draft. However, he hit well and flashed the trademark Young speed, including 87 stolen bases in 2006. Young, Jr. was first called up in 2009, when he was 24 years old, and received semi-frequent playing time the next three years. He never hit well enough to truly impress, though.

In 2012, Young, Jr. seems to have made a breakthrough. He has been on the major league squad all season and, despite another slow start, has brought his overall hitting line up to .309/.371/.414. Contributing to that has been a big past couple weeks as his line since July 31 is .447/.480/.596. It appears as though Young, Jr. is poised to remain in a starting outfield role as Michael Cuddyer might move to first base upon any return he may make this season. Young has shown he can hit for a good to high average and in a starting role, he could absolutely help a team in the steals category. He's only owned in 2.9% of ESPN leagues right now and could be a big help for a team desperate for outfielders.
