Closer Watch

White Sox – Matt Lindstrom injured his ankle trying to field a bunt Monday night against the Royals, forcing him out of the game after one batter. So Scott Downs came in for the first out, then the soon-to-be-26-year-old righty Jake Petricka got the last two outs for his first career save. The Chicago bullpen is a disaster, but Petricka and Downs can probably be considered the frontrunners for matchup-dependent save chances. Ryan Webb could be in the mix too.

Indians – After getting the last two saves for the Indians, Bryan Shaw was called upon for an effective eighth inning Monday, while Cody Allen was summoned for the ninth. But Allen coughed up a game-tying homer to Detroit's J.D. Martinez, and it's hard to ignore that his struggles over his last two outings have inflated his WHIP for the year to a poor 1.41. Shaw's is 0.90. Take note.

Reds – Aroldis Chapman allowed the Nationals to come back and tie Monday's game on a Scott Hairston sac fly, but he ended up balancing things out with a scoreless second inning and two strikeouts. Despite the blown save, he's under no threat of replacement.

Recommended Pickup
Rickie Weeks, 2B, MIL – Are we learning to love Weeks all over again? Well, hitting .328 goes a long way toward that, and with Scooter Gennett not making huge waves at second base, Weeks has been winning more and more playing time of late. In May so far, he's 14-for-29 (.483) with a couple homers, and he's hitting both lefties and righties effectively. Weeks is currently sitting on the best strikeout rate of his career, and though his average is BABIP-inflated, he's hitting line drives and grounders at the best rates of his career, and he hasn't hit an infield pop-up yet this year. Second base is deep this season, but with the way he's been hitting lately, Weeks plays in a lot of formats.

Other Recent Recommendations: Gordon Beckham, Ryan Vogelsong, Ichiro Suzuki, Anthony Gose, Darren O'Day
