Closer Watch

Mets – Kyle Farnsworth has been struggling lately, and Monday was no different even though he managed to collect his third save of the season. Farnsworth allowed a leadoff walk and a one-out single, but escaped thanks to a well-hit Jacoby Ellsbury fly out to center and a sharply hit Brian McCann grounder snared by Lucas Duda to start a game-ending double play. If that grounder gets through the infield and extends the inning, Terry Collins is probably talking about a closer change on the postgame report. But it didn't, so Farnsworth holds onto the role for now, but he should be pushed hard going forward by Jeurys Familia and Jenrry Mejia, who was just demoted from the rotation.

Indians – Bryan Shaw picked up his second save on Sunday, and we're officially into the post-John Axford era in Cleveland. The Indians may still be doing things by committee in theory, but Shaw's had an outstanding year so far and may narrowly have the edge on Cody Allen and the rest of the crew. It certainly seems he's getting the first crack, at least, and that should be enough to make him an automatic fantasy pickup.

Recommended Pickup
Rafael Montero, SP, NYM – The Mets' second-best pitching prospect, Montero isn't Noah Syndergaard – in fact, he's outperformed Syndergaard by a fair margin so far this year. Despite pitching in the tremendously difficult environment of hitter-friendly Triple-A Las Vegas, Montero's the proud owner of a 3.67 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 41.2 innings. The only downside: He's issued 18 walks, with 10 of them coming in his last three starts. Now he's headed to New York to make his MLB debut Wednesday in Yankee Stadium against Masahiro Tanaka. Montero's got that tasty combination of ground balls and strikeouts that you love to see in a pitcher, and though he may have his outings capped to start out (he hasn't finished seven frames a single time in Triple-A this year), he could make an instant fantasy impact for a Mets team that's been playing strong defense.

Other Recent Recommendations: Gerardo Parra, Roenis Elias, Wilmer Flores, Rougned Odor, A.J. Pollock
