Closer Watch
Padres -- Luke Gregerson looked to be in line for the save Wednesday against the Dodgers when he recorded the first two outs of the ninth inning in a one run game, but he was pulled in favor of rookie Tommy Layne after hitting Shane Victorino on the foot on a 0-2 pitch. Layne finished the game against by getting the first batter he faced to ground out, which earned him his second save of the season. In a bullpen that currently consists of ten pitchers, eight happen to be rookies, and that has given Gregerson the seniority needed to be the regular ninth inning man for the Padres as long as Huston Street is injured. The experience was well needed Friday night when Gregerson was brought back to the mound with a 6-5 lead in the ninth, and he consequently closed out the Diamondbacks on 13 pitches giving him his fifth save in his last seven appearances.

Recommended Pickup
Dewayne Wise, OF, CHW -- In the five-game hitting streak that Wise has accumulated since the start of September up to the end of Friday's game, the White Sox outfielder has had at least two hits in four of those games, and raised his batting average 18 points in the process. That is a very nice line and all for just about anyone in the big leagues, but what Wise has to offer besides for his current hot streak is his potential for steals. From August 28 to Friday's 7-5 loss to the Royals, Wise has collected six stolen bags in eight games, which by all accounts should be a convincing enough stat line for any fantasy owner to pick him up off the waiver wire, but it should be especially convincing for those that are desperate for some speed this late on in the season.
