Tejeda signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Thursday, Baseball America's Matt Eddy reports.
ANALYSIS
Tejeda will serve as a utility man who will provide organizational depth in both the infield and outfield. After hitting just .198 in the minors in 2013, he'll look to get back on track in the Nationals' farm system. He's flashed ability to steal bases in the past, and the organization is hoping some of that speed returns this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2012
2011
2010
All the gains Tejeda made in 2010 for High-A Salem, he gave back in 2011 while playing for Double-A Portland. He's only 21 and one of the youngest players at that level, so the Red Sox will remain patient with the infielder who forced his way onto the 40-man roster in the offseason leading up to 2011. He's improved his management of the strike zone, but still is considered an aggressive swinger and chases some. And he needs to hit the secondary offerings better, learning to stay back on the off-speed and breaking stuff. He'll return to Double-A where he can hopefully use his 2011 season as a learning experience. If he can better command his at-bats, perhaps we'll see him reach Triple-A Pawtucket by the end of the season.
Tejeda experienced an offensive surge in 2010, largely due to cleaning up the mecahnics of his swing and some development physically. He projects to have good-to-better power as a middle infielder. As he goes up a level, he'll face more advanced pitching, which will challenge the aggessive swinging Tejeda. He'll need to work on his selection and reduce his strike zone. Defensively, he's handled the move to second base with aplomb.
Tejeda, 20, was with Low-A Greenville for his second straight season in 2009. His over-aggressive approach at the plate results in poor on-base numbers and he struggles with breaking balls, but we must remember he's been one of the younger players in every league he's played. Pitch selection and recognition, which would lead to better contact rates, are seen as the big developmental needs offensively entering 2010. However, with an expected promotion to High-A Salem, Tejeda will have to work on those skills against better pitching. In the field, Tejeda has good arm strength and improving technique, though he tends to rush plays and make routine plays tougher than they should be. A switch to another position is not out of the question.
