Closer Watch

Royals - Aaron Crow recorded his second save of the season Friday against the Indians with Greg Holland and Wade Davis both not available out of the pen after pitching three consecutive games. Crow's other save came on June 7 in a similar situation, so needless to say do not take this as a sign that Crow will be getting the call in a save situation any time soon. On another team Crow may be looked at as a viable option as a closer, but until that happens Crow will only be valuable in leagues with holds as a category.

Rangers - Neftali Feliz was the man chosen to close out Friday's game in Texas' first save opportunity since trading Joakim Soria. It took Feliz 26 pitches while giving up a hit and a run, but he was able to record his first save of the season, and first since save for the Rangers since game five of the 2011 world series. Feliz recorded 72 saves in 2010 and 2011 combined, so he has the track record of a proven closer, but fantasy owners that pick him off the waiver wire should definitely keep a close eye on him as he hasn't fully returned to the same form that he was in when he was the teams regular closer.

Padres - Joaquin Benoit was the chosen replace ment for the now traded Huston Street, and on Friday night got his second save of the season and first since the trade. Benoit only had 13 saves in his first 10 MLB seasons until last season with Detroit where is successfully closed out 24 games. Benoit will be the most likely candidate to get the call for San Diego in save situations for the near future, but this is another buyer beware situation as his team may look for a permanent solutions on the trade market.

Recommended Pickup

Shane Greene, SP, NYY - Since being called up to start July 7 Greene has been very impressive in his first three starts for the Yankees. In 19 innings pitched Greene has only given up six runs while striking out 17 batters, allowing 17 hits, and three walks. What is even more impressive is that in his first two starts he picked up two wins, and even though Greene got the loss in his last start where he gave up four runs over 5.2 innings he did it by only allowing four hits and one walk. Greene's spot in the Yankee's rotation is by no means secure, so that may mean each of his next couple starts will be make it or break it moments for the rookie, so if your fantasy team needs a make it or break it spot starter this rookie may be your man.
