Closer Watch

Yankees - No closer in the majors has a more secure job than Mariano Rivera has with the Yankees, but he blew his second save in a row Friday night in a game his team eventually ended up winning against the Tigers. This is more likely just a coincidence than anything for Rivera, and even if he blows the save in his next appearance he will remain the Yankees closer.

Angels - Dane De La Rosa received his first career MLB save Friday night when he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning. De La Rosa took advantage to the opportunity given to him because Ernesto Frieri has been off as of late and was able to convert. Look for him to pick up more saves while Frieri proves he can be trusted in the ninth inning with the lead.

Orioles - Jim Johnson blew his seventh save of the season Friday against the Giants when he gave up a run to tie the game, but it was Tommy Hunter who got the save when he came into the tenth with the lead a three-run lead thanks to a Chris Davis homer. Johnson is the Orioles man in the ninth, so Hunter will not get many more save chances unless something drastic happens to Johnson.

Recommended Pickup

Henderson Alvarez, P, MIA - It is a little surprising that Alvarez is available in so many leagues right now as he has a 2.80 ERA, 1.13 WHIP in seven starts. The only things that are holding Alvarez back in terms of fantasy value is that he doesn't strike that many batters out with only 23 in 45 innings pitched, and he doesn't pick up many wins because he pitches for one of the worst teams in baseball in the Marlins. Those two things aside most fantasy teams could really benefit from the ERA and WHIP boost that Alvarez provides, and with two wins in his last three starts it seems like the team may be playing a little better when he is on the mound.
