Donnie Joseph

Joseph has proven to have an incredibly strong arm and his low-90s fastball and mid-80s slider have allowed him to average more than a strikeout per inning over his last several minor league seasons. However, control problems have also dominated his performances and despite being able to post a 13.8 K/9 over 54.2 Triple-A innings, his 6.9 BB/9 is a little more glaring. As a result of so many command issues, Joseph's pitch counts are consistently high and his effectiveness is limited to just a batter or two rather than being able to just work a full inning of relief. He'll be given an opportunity to compete for a bullpen job in 2014, but unless he can start eliminating the walks, the likelihood of him opening the season in Triple-A for a third-straight season remains high.
