Inks minor league deal
Butler signed a minor league deal with the Nationals on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Butler, who elected free agency in November, spent all of last season with Triple-A Columbus in the Cleveland organization, where he batted .240/.318/.344 in 118 games. Butler played an extensive role with Tampa Bay in 2015, but likely serves as organizational depth for the Nationals.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2014
Butler spent 2011-2014 in Triple-A for Texas and St. Louis trying to prove he was worthy of another shot in the majors after seeing 21 plate appearances in the bigs during that span. The ever budget-conscious Rays took him because manager Kevin Cash was a teammate of Butler’s in the Texas system and thought he was a good hitter. He got 11 hits in his first 11 games and by Father's Day, had amassed an improbable .338/.378/.523 slash line over his first 164 plate appearances. Then, POP. He went on to hit .162/.231/.182 until the final day of the season when he went 3-for-4 with two homers and six RBI. He’s Quadruple-A material that could hang around the game for a bit, but he had a nice moment. He’s an impatient batter that got away with a lot of fortunate batted ball luck early on and then demonstrated why he’s been in Triple-A for so many years.
