Closer Watch

New York (AL) – With Rafael Soriano unavailable Thursday after notching both of the save chances in Wednesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, David Robertson got the call in the ninth inning. Robertson struck out the side to earn his second save of the season. Soriano's job security is very high on the moment, but he's been used excessively of late by the Yankees, so Robertson will get looks in the ninth inning whenever Soriano needs a rest.

San Diego – Huston Street (calf) was activated from the disabled list Friday. Street's recovery has been a little slower than expected, but it looks like he'll be back to handle save situations for the Padres for the last two weeks of the season. Luke Gregerson can likely now be dropped in most leagues, though he performed admirably in Street's absence, saving eight of nine opportunities while dropping his ERA from 2.37 to 2.24 during that span.

Washington – Much like the situation with Rafael Soriano, the Nationals had closer Tyler Clippard unavailable for action Thursday night after appearing in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Dodgers. Drew Storen got the call, striking out all three batters he faced in an economical 13 pitches to earn his third save of the season. Manager Davey Johnson announced Friday that Storen and Clippard would both be used in save situations going forward, with Storen more likely to be used against right-handers and Clippard expected to get the call against left-handed lineups. Both are probably deserving of spots on fantasy rosters, but Storen figures to be the more valuable of the two pitchers going forward.

Recommended Pickup

Nate McLouth, OF, BAL – It seemed inconceivable early in the season that McLouth would even come close to being on the radar as a recommended pickup, yet that's exactly where we are. After flaming out the past two seasons with the Braves and getting his walking papers from the Pirates earlier this season, McLouth has reemerged as a viable major league outfielder, for a contending Orioles squad, no less. He's been especially good of late, turning in three multi-hit games in a row while batting near the top of the order. When he's on his game, McLouth can be helpful across all categories, as his 26-homer, 23-steal 2008 campaign illustrates. Based on recent returns, it appears that time is now for McLouth, so he might be worthy of rostering for the season's final weeks if you're in need of outfield help.

Other recent recommendations: Chris Carpenter, Dylan Bundy, Chris Archer, Wily Peralta and Jacob Turner
