Strange finish leads to no contest
BantamweightUFC
June 17, 2023
Lawrence and Dan Argueta fought to a no contest (overturned decision) at 2:20 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 47 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Well, you don't see that every day. Entering as a healthy -200 favorite, Lawrence was planted on his back moments after the opening bell rang. He eventually found himself in a tight guillotine choke. He raised his hand to tap out and appeared to be inches away from doing so, at which point referee Keith Peterson tapped the hand to see if Lawrence was still awake. That resulted in Lawrence appearing to tap out, at least from Peterson's point of view. He stopped the fight and went to replay, at which point the decision was overturned and changed to a no contest. While the call was correct, it's a huge break for Lawrence considering he appeared to be just seconds away from tapping out for real.

Lawrence is looking to get back on track after dropping his last bout in July of 2022 to Saidyokub Kakhramonov at UFC on ESPN 39 via unanimous decision. He owns an 8-2-0 overall MMA record and had won five straight fights prior to getting knocked around by Kakhramonov.
No-shows opener in Vegas

July 9, 2022
Lawrence lost to Saidyokub Kakhramonov via unanimous decision (26-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN 39 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Lawrence was unable to duplicate the success of his UFC debut this past February, a unanimous decision win over Mana Martinez. A noted wrestler himself, Lawrence was completely smothered by the grappling game of Kakhramonov. He gave up 10 takedowns on 16 attempts and spent more than 12 minutes being controlled. It was a complete no-show from Lawrence in a fight in which he entered as a slight -120 favorite. The 30-year-old Tennessee native will need a rebound effort his next time out.

Lawrence will fight Saidyokub Kakhramonov at UFC Fight Night on July 9, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Lawrence boasts an 8-1-0 overall MMA record and won his last fight, defeating Mana Martinez at UFC 271 via unanimous decision in February. The 31-year-old struggled down the stretch in that bout, almost allowing Martinez to come back and win in Round 3. He'll look to put together a better all-around effort when he faces Kakhramonov, who won his last fight over Trevin Jones via technical submission (guillotine choke) in August.
