Set to have surgery

May 16, 2021
Souza fractured his right humerus in Saturday's loss to Andre Muniz at UFC 262 and will be required to have surgery in the coming days, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Souza is apparently in good spirits despite the injury and has plans to fly back to Brazil to have the procedure done there. The 41-year-old was taken to the local hospital immediately after his fight and got X-rays which showed the fracture in his right arm. Souza is now on a four-fight losing streak following Saturday's loss. He has lost in the first round in back-to-back fights and was defeated via submission by Muniz for the just the second time in his career.
Losing streak hits four

Souza lost to Andre Muniz via submission (armbar) at 3:59 of Round 1 at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
It's the first submission loss of Jacare's storied career in what may very well go down as his last fight in the UFC. If that's not bad enough, Souza's arm clearly and audibly snapped prior to referee Jacob Montalvo stepping in. He was immediately ushered out of the cage and to the back for medical attention. Jacare looked just fine in the early going before Muniz landed a couple of uncontested takedowns. According to the UFC broadcast, Muniz joins Jack Hermansson and Chris Weidman as the only fighters to successfully take Jacare down in the past decade. It doesn't take a hardcore MMA fan to figure out the 41-year-old Brazilian appears to be done. Jacare has lost four in a row and five of his past six. He has just a single victory dating back to January 2018. It's going to be difficult, if not impossible, for the UFC to run Jacare back out there in anything other than a "retirement" fight, and even that might have to wait until 2022 given the state of his arm.

Souza will fight Andre Muniz (undisclosed) in a middleweight match at UFC 262 on May 15, Raphael Marinho of Combate.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jacare is riding a three-fight loss streak, with his most recent defeat having come against Kevin Holland via TKO (punches) last December. It's possible that the 41-year-old's UFC career wouldn't withstand another loss, making his matchup against Muniz a pivotal one. Muniz is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC, and he's back to full health after recently having had to withdraw from a match against Andrew Sanchez.
Suffers third straight defeat

December 12, 2020
Souza lost to Kevin Holland via TKO (punches) at 1:45 of Round 1 at UFC 256 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Most would have imagined that Jacare would have been in excellent shape had he been able to score an easy takedown right off the hop against Holland, but he found himself knocked into next week just seconds later. It was an awkward finish in which Holland appeared to crack Souza while sitting on the mat. Jacare was immediately stunned and a few follow-up shots from Holland finished the proceedings. It's a crushing setback for Souza considering his most recent bout prior to Saturday was a split-decision defeat to the man who is currently UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jan Blachowicz. 41 years old and the loser of three in a row and four of his last fight, Souza is another fighter whose job may be in jeopardy as we head into 2021.

Souza will fight Kevin Holland (illness) in a middleweight bout at UFC 256 on Dec. 12, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Holland was set to fight Jack Hermansson next weekend while Souza and Marvin Vettori were matched up for UFC 256, but the promotion was forced to shake up the schedule after Holland tested positive for COVID-19. Hermansson is now taking on Vettori next weekend, Dec. 5, while Souza and Holland are poised to face each other the following week.
