Can't close show in Vegas
MiddleweightPFL
October 16, 2021
Sanchez lost to Bruno Silva via TKO (punches) at 2:35 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Seemingly up 20-18 on the scorecards following a strong first ten minutes, Sanchez was unable to close the show. His quick start was the result of some excellent grappling. Sanchez landed seven successful takedowns over the course of the first two rounds, including six in the second frame alone. He was credited with 7:53 worth of control time over the course of the first ten minutes, but repeated low blows cost Sanchez a point early in Round 3 and allowed Silva to regain his composure. It was academic from there. A loser in three of his past four bouts, Sanchez's UFC record has dipped to .500 (5-5).
Set for Oct. 16 fight
MiddleweightPFL
August 24, 2021
Sanchez will fight Bruno Silva at the Oct. 16 UFC event, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez took a beating in his last fight, losing to Makhmud Muradov in January, and this will be his first chance to get back in the win column. Sanchez has a one-inch height advantage over Silva.
Routed by Makhmud Muradov
MiddleweightPFL
January 23, 2021
Sanchez lost to Makhmud Muradov via TKO (punches) at 2:59 of Round 3 at UFC 257 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez likely wishes he was facing his originally scheduled opponent, Andre Muniz, right about now. Sanchez nearly lasted 14 minutes against Muradov, which is an accomplishment in it's own right considering the massive gap in technical skill and power in the striking game between the two men. This was a clear step backwards for Sanchez following his first-round knockout win over Wellington Turman in his most recent fight last August. The 32-year-old Sanchez is better than some of the fringe middleweights on the UFC roster, but you are what your record says you are in this sport, and Sanchez's record says is he 3-3 in his past six fights dating back to April 2017.
Gets new opponent
MiddleweightPFL
December 23, 2020
Sanchez will now take on Makhmud Muradov in a middleweight bout at UFC 257 on Jan. 23, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Andre Muniz was forced to withdraw for an undisclosed reason, so Muradov will step in with a month's notice. Sanchez will look to run his UFC record up to 6-3. Muradov will have a one inch height advantage, but both fighters have a reach of 76 inches.
Facing Muniz at UFC 257
MiddleweightPFL
November 18, 2020
Sanchez will take on Andre Muniz in a middleweight matchup at UFC 257 on Jan. 23, Marcelo Barone of Globo Esporte reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is fresh off a POTN-winning victory following his first-round stoppage of Wellington Turman to improve to 3-1 in his last four fights. He draws a tough customer in Muniz, who is a undefeated (4-0) jiu-jitsu practitioner with high marks in takedowns averaged and submissions attempted per fight. Sanchez, however, has yet to be dragged to the mat in eight appearances with the UFC. He also averages more than double the striking volume of Muniz. If he can stay off the mat, Sanchez should have the edge here, but that's something much easier said than done.
