New Bellator Welterweight Champion
WelterweightBellator
July 8, 2024
Kuramagomedov defeated Jason Jackson via unanimous decision (48-47 x3) at Bellator Champions Series Dublin on June 22 to become the new Bellator Welterweight Champion.
ANALYSIS
Kuramagomedov had a brief stint with the UFC via Contender Series and was even scheduled for a fight once, though he was forced to drop out. He never got another chance, instead joining some regional promotions in Russia before catching on with Bellator. Now that Bellator has been acquired by PFL, Kurmagomedov may be limited to the Bellator International Series, as it's unclear if he has aspirations to enter the PFL 170-pound playoff at any point down the road.

Kuramagomedov stepped in on short notice to face Oliveira but apparently has come down with something ahead of the bout and will have to withdraw from his UFC debut. It's an unfortunate end to his first chance at the promotion and it's unclear when he will get another crack at it.

Kuramagomedov has jumped in on short notice to make his UFC debut at Las Vegas 20 on Saturday versus Alex Oliveira, MMAJunkie.com reports.
