WelterweightUFC
October 12, 2024
Diaz will fight Vicente Luque at UFC 310 on Dec. 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The two fighters were originally scheduled to fight each other in August, but travel issues caused the bout to be canceled. Diaz will now get a chance to redeem himself against Luque after a four-month delay, desperate to turn things around after three consecutive losses.

Fight scrapped
WelterweightUFC
July 20, 2024
The fight between Diaz and Vicente Luque has been removed from the UFC Abu Dhabi card, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Early reporting claims the cancellation was due to a travel issue so it seems this fight has a good chance of being rescheduled for a later date.
Booked for Abu Dhabi
WelterweightUFC
May 29, 2024
Diaz will take on Vicente Luque in a welterweight matchup at UFC Abu Dhabi on August 3, UFC President Dana White announced via X on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Scheduling Nick Diaz for any fight in 2023 is concerning, but giving him a ranked welterweight fighter who is eight years younger could very well be a recipe for disaster. Diaz is winless since 2011 and was finished for the first time in the UFC in 2021 against a since-retired Robbie Lawler. Granted, Luque has lost three of four, but he's still a dangerous finisher who has accumulated eight post-fight bonuses in his UFC run. At the very least, featuring Diaz will bring some major name recognition to the promotion's annual Abu Dhabi card.
Stopped in first fight since 2015

September 25, 2021
Diaz lost to Robbie Lawler via TKO (punches) at 0:44 of Round 3 at UFC 266 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a strange set of circumstances. Fighting for the first time since January 31, 2015, Diaz was battered in the opening seconds of the fight before slowly finding his range. He engaged in a back-and-forth kickboxing match with Lawler, often winning the exchanges on the strength of sheer volume. Diaz understandably tired as the fight progressed, and Lawler pounded him with a combination early in Round 3. Diaz went to the mat and didn't said he could no longer continue when referee Jason Herzog asked him to stand up. Diaz appeared to grab his knee in a token effort to explain the stoppage, but there was no mention of injury, and it appeared as if he just didn't want to continue. The post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier was ... awkward. As was the case in an interview with ESPN's Brett Okamoto earlier in the week, Diaz gave off the impression that he didn't really want to be there. He came off as a guy who had to fight as opposed to a guy who wanted to fight. This whole thing is very weird. Certainly Diaz was well compensated for coming back, and obviously we don't know his financial situation, but his heart didn't appear to be in it from the second this fight was announced. Nick turned 38 years of age in early August and hasn't won a fight in nearly a decade. Obviously he's not making a run as a serious contender, so any additional fights would simply be a novelty act.
Bumps up weight class

Diaz's fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 is now a middleweight fight, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani reports.
ANALYSIS
Initially touted as a welterweight bout, Diaz and Lawler will bump up to the 185-pound division for their fight, which is the former's first in six years.
Set to return to Octagon
WelterweightUFC
July 13, 2021
Diaz is scheduled to face Robbie Lawler in a welterweight fight Sept. 25 at UFC 266 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Diaz announced in February of 2018 that he wouldn't fight again unless given "an offer (he) couldn't refuse." Rumblings began last fall that Diaz was considering a return to the UFC, however, and he's now picked up an offer that will end his six-year fighting layoff. In Lawler, he'll be opposing someone who is coming off four consecutive losses. The two squared off over 17 years ago in a fight that ended with Diaz knocking Lawler out in the second round.
