Mustafaev is no longer scheduled to face Yamato Nishikawa on Saturday at UFC 280 after the fight was removed from the card Tuesday, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports have surfaced that Nishikawa cannot fight due to being under contract with a separate promotion, but Nishikawa's camp has denied those reports and seems to be blaming the cancellation on Mustafaev's side. Either way, it appears this fight will no longer happen Saturday. Mustafaev had been listed as approximately a (-550) betting favorite against the UFC newcomer.

October 4, 2022
Mustafaev will now take on UFC newcomer Yamato Nishikawa in a lightweight matchup at UFC 280 on Oct. 22, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Originally slated for a date with Jamie Mullarkey, Mustafaev will now take on a 19-year-old newcomer and enters as roughly a (-550) betting favorite. While Nishikawa is young, he does have an impressive 30 professional fights under his belt, with 14 of his 21 victories coming by way of KO/TKO. Still, it represents a good opportunity for Mustafaev to bounce back after going 1-2 in his last three fights and being largely inactive for the better part of the last five years. He'll have been on the sidelines for nearly 32 months by the time he steps in the cage.

Mustafaev will no longer fight Jamie Mullarkey at UFC 280 on Oct. 22 after Mullarkey withdrew from the bout due to an injury, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The nature of Mullarkey's injury remains unclear, but Mustafaev will now have to wait to see if the UFC can find a suitable replacement to face him in October. If a replacement is ultimately found, Mustafaev will finally return to the Octagon at UFC 280 after not having competed in the last two years.
To return at UFC 280

August 24, 2022
Mustafaev will take on Jamie Mullarkey in a lightweight matchup at UFC 280 on Oct. 22, Tom Feely of Sherdog reports.
ANALYSIS
Mustafaev hasn't competed since February of 2020, as he saw fights against Renato Moicano, Mateusz Gamrot and Damir Ismagulov all fall through. He'll draw a more active opponent in Mullarkey, who has competed twice so far in 2022. Mullarkey has the edge in volume striking, while Mustafaev has more offensive wrestling -- though much of that is due to the eight takedowns he recorded in his last fight against Brad Riddell (for perspective, he was taken down seven times by Kevin Lee two fights earlier). Mustafaev will be giving up four inches in height and three in reach when the cage doors close.

Mustafaez won't face Damir Ismagulov at UFC 267 on Saturday after Ismagulov missed weight at Friday's weigh-ins, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ismagulov came in a whopping 7.5 pounds heavy for the lightweight bout, leading the matchup to be canceled. It's a tough break for Mustafaev, who was set to return to the Octagon for the first time since February 2020.
