Suffers second straight loss
BantamweightUFC
August 24, 2024
Nunes lost to Jacqueline Cavalcanti via split decision (27-30, 30-27, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The 30-27 scorecard in favor of Nunes is the worst we've seen since last week's Tai Tuivasa debacle. Judge Ron McCarthy felt Josiane won all three rounds despite the fact she closed on the short end of a 91-52 total in terms of total strikes landed. Nunes has some pop in her hands, but she refuses to vary her attacks, and at 5-foot-2, she simply doesn't possess the length to consistently threaten longer opponents such as a Cavalcanti. Nunes won each of her first three UFC bouts against lesser opposition, but has predictably struggled since, losing her last two. She likely needs a victory her next time out in order to save her roster spot.

Cavalcanti up next
BantamweightUFC
July 1, 2024
Nunes is scheduled to compete against Jacqueline Cavalcanti in a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 96 on Aug. 24, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
After suffering her first UFC loss back in March, Nunes will look to get back on track by defeating Cavalcanti. Ideally for Nunes, this fight will also proceed without any weight miss from her opponent, which was the case when she suffered defeat to Chelsea Chandler.
Suffers first UFC defeat
BantamweightUFC
March 16, 2024
Nunes lost to Chelsea Chandler via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight was close, but Nunes really struggled with the physicality of Chandler throughout the course of the bout. The fact the latter missed weight by a pound Friday morning may have very well contributed to that. The Brazilian spent far too much of the first ten minutes being controlled by Chandler, limiting her ability to generate offense. All three judges gave Nunes Round 3, but the damage was already done. The lone positive news for Nunes is that she will walk away with 20 percent of her opponent's purse. It's Josiane's first loss in four UFC bouts, although it's worth noting the company has been extremely conservative regarding the quality of competition they have matched her up against thus far.
Finally scheduled for fight
BantamweightUFC
January 23, 2024
Nunes is scheduled to compete in a bantamweight fight against Chelsea Chandler at the UFC's Vegas event on March 16, per Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
This will be Nunes' first fight scheduled since UFC 283, when the 30-year-old bantamweight defeated Zarah Fairn. More than a year has passed since then, with the Brazilian's next opponent having suffered her first UFC loss. Nunes will look to deliver Chandler's second defeat in March.
Survives as massive favorite
BantamweightUFC
January 21, 2023
Nunes defeated Zarah Fairn via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 283 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Nunes walked away with the victory she came for, but it was a truly underwhelming effort in one of the least-technical fights you will ever see. Giving up a whopping seven inches in height to her opponent, Nunes struggled to get inside and land with consistency. She spent the entire fight firing off reckless combinations, some of which landed due to Fairn's poor striking defense. Nunes certainly didn't look the part of a -550 favorite. The Brazilian's future isn't as bright as her perfect 3-0 mark with the UFC would lead you to believe.
UFC 283 fight in the works

September 26, 2022
Nunes is expected to take on Zarah Fairn at UFC 283 on Jan. 21, MMA Fighting reports.
ANALYSIS
This fight was originally booked for April 2021, but it was removed after Fairn missed weight by eight pounds. Nunes comes in riding high on an eight-fight win streak with the most recent coming in February against Romona Pascual.
