Fight on despite missing weight
Edwards' scheduled bantamweight matchup against Tamires Vidal will proceed as planned despite Edwards missing weight Friday morning, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Edwards will have to forfeit 25 percent of her fight purse to Vidal in order for this fight to proceed, but what's worse is the fact that Friday's final weight of 139 pounds represents the third time she's missed the bantamweight limit. The UFC could easily elect to cut bait regardless of Saturday's result. In the meantime, Edwards sits as approximately a (-265) betting favorite as of Saturday morning.

Misses weight ahead of Vidal clash

Edwards registered at 139 pounds, which is three pounds over the limit including the one-pound allowance for non title-fight scenarios. On her first attempt, she weighed in at 139.5. It's currently unclear if the fight will proceed as scheduled, and how much of Edwards' purse will be forfeited if so.

Edwards will take on Tamires Vidal in a bantamweight bout at UFC Vegas 99 on Oct. 19, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.

Her opponent Vidal, meanwhile, is also coming off two straight losses.

Tending to thumb injury
Edwards has been given an indefinite medical suspension by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board pending right thumb X-rays, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Edwards was competitive Saturday, but ultimately couldn't defend the takedown consistently and lost the significant strike battle. She's now dropped back-to-back fights and will need medical clearance if she intends to attempt to break that streak prior to late-2024.

Close fight ends in loss
Edwards lost to Ailin Perez via unanimous decison (27-30, 29,28, 29-28) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
It's clear that Edwards has been working hard to sure up her ground game, as she scored a number of sweeps from bottom position, but she would do well to work her actual takedown defense, as it seems she is just competent enough on the ground to not get worked there. As she often does, Perez got tired in the third round, which allowed Edwards to pour on some leg kicks, but it was too little, too late. Edwards can look good in the right matchup, but her time in the UFC has been bumpy, to say the least. She falls to 13-6 in professional MMA due to the loss.
