Still searching for first UFC win
Light HeavyweightUFC
February 12, 2022
Cherant lost to Carlos Ulberg via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 271 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
It was another lousy effort from Cherant, who has now lost each of his first three UFC bouts in a span of about 11 months. Cherant actually looked pretty good whenever he pushed forward and attempted to pepper Ulberg with power shots, but he had all sorts of issues closing the distance between him and his opponent and that resulted in Cherant spending the vast majority of the bout on the outside being picked apart by Ulberg. Cherant's corner implored him to be more aggressive but it simply wasn't going to happen. A non-prospect upon his arrival in the company last March, the odds would appear to be against Cherant receiving a fourth opportunity with the UFC.

Will fight in February
Light HeavyweightUFC
November 9, 2021
Cherant will fight Carlos Ulberg at UFC 271 on February 12, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Cherant has gotten off to a rough start after losing each of his first two UFC bouts. The 26-year-old will have his back against the wall as he hopes to pick up his first win in the promotion. His opponent dropped his UFC debut back in March, so both fighters will be hungry to prove their worth when they meet in a few months.
Torched by William Knight
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 21, 2021
Cherant lost to William Knight via KO (punches) at 3:58 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 29 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Our exposure to Cherant has been minimal, but what we have seen has not gone well. He was knocked out by Aleksa Camur on an episode of Dana White's Contender Series back in July 2019, but was still given a UFC opportunity against Alonzo Menifield this past March. He was submitted in 71 seconds in that fight before being torched by Knight in less that four minutes on Saturday. Cherant doesn't have a knockout win in his pro career and has never fought anyone of note. It's a terrible combination, and there is no guarantee he gets a third chance with the company.
Targeting fight versus Knight
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 8, 2021
Cherant is expected to square off against William Knight in a UFC event on Aug. 21, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Cherant is coming off his debut fight with the UFC. He ultimately lost the bout to Alonzo Menifield and was subsequently sidelined with a rib injury. He will look to get things back on track against Knight, who is also looking to bounce back from a loss.
Dealing with rib injury
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 29, 2021
Cherant has been suspended six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending medical clearance for a right rib injury, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cherant apparently suffered a rib injury during Saturday's loss to Alonzo Menifield via submission (Von Flue choke) at UFC 260. He'll undergo an X-ray to determine the extent of the issue. If the X-ray is positive, Cherant will be unable to fight until the end of September unless he's cleared by a doctor.
Not competitive in UFC debut
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 27, 2021
Cherant lost to Alonzo Menifield via submission (Von Flue choke) at 1:11 of Round 1 at UFC 260 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's been a crazy last few days for Cherant. He stepped in for William Knight on just 48 hours notice before missing weight by half a pound on Friday morning. He forfeited 20 percent of his purse to Menifield in order for the fight to continue and then barely lasted a minute. It's impossible to judge Cherant given the set of circumstances leading up to the bout. Nonetheless, he did make a basic grappling mistake that led to an easy submission for his opponent -- something he'll need to tighten up his next time out. Still, he will almost certainly get another opportunity with the company given his willingness to "save" this fight.
