Struggles continue in Vegas

Giagos lost to Ignacio Bahamondes via KO (head kick) at 3:34 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This seemed like an awful matchup for Giagos on paper and played out exactly that way inside the octagon. He was going up against a younger, quicker, more powerful, and much larger opponent. Toss in the fact Giagos has durability issues and the result here seemed like a forgone conclusion. To Christos' credit, he managed to eat a boat load of massive strikes before crumbling for good. Still, that doesn't seem like enough to extend his run with the company. Giagos is now sporting a 1-4 record in his past five fights, with all four of the defeats coming via stoppage. It's going to be difficult for the company to run him back out there again.

Giagos lost to Daniel Zellhuber via submission (anaconda choke) at 3:26 of Round 2 at Noche UFC on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Giagos picked up a first-round knockout, upset win over Rick Glenn this past April, and he nearly got Zellhuber here. Entering as a hefty +235 underdog, Giagos cracked his opponent with a sweeping left hook and floored the gas pedal in hopes of earning the stoppage but couldn't close the show. Christos then ate a shot in Round 2 that forced him to go for a half-hearted takedown attempts, allowing Zellhuber to throw him to the mat and clamp on the anaconda choke. Giagos, now 33 years of age, drops to 6-7 over the course of two separate stints with the company.

Shocking knockout win in Vegas
LightweightUFC
April 23, 2023
Giagos defeated Rick Glenn via KO (punch) at 1:35 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Giagos was a very minor underdog for this fight at +130, but if he was to pull the upset, few would have guessed it would have come in this manner. Glenn had never been knocked out in his long pro career entering the evening, while Giagos' most recent knockout win came in June 2016. Yet, all it took was one sweeping left hook to the side of Glenn's head to close the show. That shot would go on to earn him one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening. More importantly for the 33-year-old Giagos was the fact that the victory snapped a brief two-fight losing streak and would appear likely to have saved his job in the process. Giagos' next challenge will be to follow up this strong effort with another his next time out.
