Submission win in Paris opener
LightweightUFC
September 28, 2024
Duncan defeated Bolaji Oki via technical submission (guillotine choke) at 3:34 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
Duncan is not known for his ground game, as this was just his second submission win in 14 professional bouts. He gave up two takedowns to Oki early on and appeared to be on all sorts of trouble. That's when Bolaji slipped while going for his third attempt, leaving Duncan the opportunity to grab his neck and clamp on the guillotine choke which eventually put the former to sleep. Chris has quietly racked up victories in three of his first four UFC bouts, in addition to picking up a win on Dana White's Contender Series prior to his official company arrival.

Suffers first UFC defeat

Duncan lost to Manuel Torres via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:46 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
It simply wasn't Duncan's evening. Going up against a highly-talented young opponent in enemy territory, Chris stood no chance. He cracked Torres with one big shot seconds after the opening bell rang and was actually credited with a takedown shortly thereafter, but Torres eventually forced him to the mat and immediately took his back, clamping on the rear-naked choke. Duncan had won each of his first two UFC bouts since officially joining the roster last March, so his roster spot is plenty secure.

Duncan (undisclosed) will take on Manuel Torres in a lightweight matchup at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Duncan is off to a 2-0 start to his UFC career, with both wins coming by way of decision. He'll take on a fighter in Torres who is also 2-0 with the company, though both of his wins have been via first-round stoppage. Considering Duncan averages a solid 3.63 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time, he will likely want to avoid the stand-up here due to the tremendous volume-based attack of Torres, who averages 9.66 significant strikes landed per minute.
