There's a lot to unpack here. As far as the fight itself, Pettis deserves a whole heap of credit. He attempted a foolish spinning strike in the early going and was planted on his back. It led to Morono racking up plenty of control time and easily winning Round 1, but Pettis and his long-time coach Duke Roufus regrouped between rounds and got on track. Pettis looked confident and assertive the rest of the way. He got off first in the striking exchanges between the two men and appeared to know exactly what he wanted to do. Pettis cruised the rest of the way. Pettis said after the fight that his next bout will come at lightweight. More importantly, it was revealed this was the final fight of his UFC contract. Pettis doesn't move the needle like he did in the earlier portion of his career, but it's difficult to see UFC President Dana White letting him walk to Bellator or another organization without making a competitive offer.
