Can't find range in defeat
BantamweightUFC
February 26, 2022
Perez lost to Jonathan Martinez via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Perez appeared to be gaining some much needed momentum following a submission win over Johnny Eduardo last October, but this was a clear step backwards for the 32-year-old. Perez's knockout power has really dried up in recent years, and he simply isn't going to be able to win decisions if he is outworked on the feet like he was in this one. Although Perez can mix in a submission here and there, he doesn't have one single standout skill to lean on in times of trouble. With three losses in his past four fights and just a single victory dating back to July 2018, Perez could easily be fighting for his job his next time out.

Submission win in Vegas opener
BantamweightUFC
October 2, 2021
Perez defeated Johnny Eduardo via submission (armbar) at 4:13 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In a fight in which the two men combined to spend more than five years on the sidelines, it was Perez who emerged victorious and likely saved his job in the process. It didn't come easy. Competing for the first time since July 2019, Perez likely dropped Round 1 on the feet. It was a concerning development, but Perez -- who has an solid all-around game -- won a positional battle during a scramble in the latter stages of Round 2 and was able to secure the submission win. It's his first victory since July 14, 2018. Overall, Perez improves to 8-3-1 in the UFC. It's imperative he get back in the Octagon as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, though, he'll walk away with one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses for his efforts.
Returns against Eduardo
BantamweightUFC
July 31, 2021
Perez is in line to face Johnny Eduardo in a bantamweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 2, Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez will have been sidelined for over two years by the time this fight takes place in October. He suffered back-to-back losses in 2019, including a KO loss to prospect Song Yadong. He was scheduled to welcome back Thomas Almeida the summer after, but he ultimately tested positive for COVID and another year on the sidelines ensued. Against Eduardo, Perez will be giving up height and reach advantages to a fighter more than 10 years his elder. Eduardo will also be coming off a long layoff, last seeing the cage in June of 2018 when he was submitted by Nathaniel Wood.

October 2, 2020
Perez withdrew from his upcoming fight against Thomas Almeida on Friday after testing positive for COVID-19, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez was set to fight for the first time since July of 2019 but will now have to wait a little while longer. With the fight coming up quite soon on Oct. 10, a new opponent will have to be found quickly for Almeida if he's to remain on the card.
Fighting October 10
BantamweightUFC
August 19, 2020
Perez will fight Thomas Almeida in a bantamweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for October 10, C. Contreras Legaspi of Laaficion.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez will be making his first appearance since July of 2019 when he was knocked out by Yadong Song. He has lost his last two fights after going unbeaten in his previous seven. Like Almeida -- who was once regarded as a top prospect -- Perez enters on a losing streak and long layoff. He'll be giving up a few inches in both height and reach to Almeida, in addition to a major edge in striking volume. Perez sports much better defensive striking marks, however, and while he hasn't used it much, he's a bit more of a threat in the grappling department. The winner here can get right back on track to a ranked spot in the bantamweight division, while the loser will face a very uncertain future.
