24-Year-Old Tight EndTE
Arizona Cardinals
2024 Fantasy Outlook
McBride had just 265 receiving yards as a rookie but emerged as one of the league’s most productive tight ends in the second half of 2023. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz hurt his quadriceps Week 7 and didn’t play for Arizona again, opening the door for the 2022 second-round pick to catch 66 of 85 targets for 655 yards and three touchdowns over the final 10 games. Prorated to 17 games, those numbers work out to 112 catches for 1,114 receiving yards and five TDs on 145 targets, which would've made McBride the TE leader for targets and yardage last year. He should have a bit more competition for Kyler Murray's attention with No. 4 overall pick Marvin Harrison replacing Marquise Brown as the No. 1 receiver and Zay Jones adding depth, but it mostly looks the Cardinals are counting on McBride and the rookie to carry their passing game. Few TEs across the NFL, if any, have a higher volume ceiling than McBride, who caught five or more passes in seven of the eight games Murray started last year. Read Past Outlooks

McBride caught four of five targets for 71 yards in Sunday's 31-6 rout of the Jets.
ANALYSIS
McBride didn't replicate his anomalous rushing touchdown from a week prior, but he continued to operate as one of Kyler Murray's favorite targets in Sunday's victory. The 24-year-old McBride has accrued a 49-552-0 line (plus a two-yard rushing TD) through nine starts as Arizona enters its bye week. McBride will likely continue being a reliable fantasy tight end when the Cardinals resume play against the Seahawks on Nov. 24.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
McBride became the first tight end taken in the 2022 NFL Draft when Arizona selected him out of Colorado State with the 55th overall pick. After racking up 1,121 receiving yards in his final college season, the 6-foot-4 tight end began his NFL career in a depth role but ascended to the top of the depth chart after Zach Ertz tore his ACL in Week 10. In the seven-game stretch from Week 11 onward, McBride caught 25 of 35 passes for 234 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Ertz’s rehab may stretch into the 2023 season, so McBride could pick up where he left off as the starter for an Arizona team that’s expected to be playing from behind much of the time but might struggle to move the ball if QB Kyler Murray is absent or limited as he works his way back from his own ACL tear.
Drafted 55th overall out of Colorado State this year, McBride’s expected to compete with Maxx Williams for snaps behind Zach Ertz in Arizona. Learning behind one of the best pass-catching tight ends of recent years could help McBride long term, but it also means targets and snaps will be hard to come by as a rookie, especially after the Cardinals used multiple tight ends on only 25 percent of offensive snaps last year. That number may go up now, but McBride’s short-term fantasy situation is still far from ideal. There is some potential for production if Ertz misses time, considering McBride ran a 4.56 40 at his pro day after catching 90 passes for 1,121 yards his final collegeiate season (albeit with only one touchdown). Despite the lack of red-zone production, McBride was the only tight end taken in the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Taking contact in practice
TEArizona Cardinals
October 3, 2024
McBride wore a regular jersey in practice Wednesday, which means he's able to absorb contact, implying substantial progress in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Week 3, per Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site.
ANALYSIS
McBride missed Arizona's Week 4 loss to the Commanders while in the NFL's concussion protocol, but he's on pace to clear the protocol and return in Week 5 against the 49ers. The team and player clearly feel that McBride has recovered since he took contact Wednesday despite being listed as a limited participant, but he will need an independent neurologist to confirm that notion in order for McBride to play Sunday.
