Minimal role on offense
WRMinnesota Vikings
November 11, 2024
Sherfield had one reception for 11 yards in Sunday's win at Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Sherfield played on 11 of the offense's 84 snaps, as he's been working as the No. 4 receiver. He's going to have a small role in the offense as long as the top three receivers are healthy and with T.J. Hockenson now back to full health.

The Bills are Sherfield's fourth team in as many years. The 27-year-old is coming off his best season as a pro in 2022, during which he hauled in 30 passes for 417 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games with the Dolphins, all career high marks. This coming season he'll compete for Buffalo's number three receiver role behind Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. His competition for targets includes Khalil Shahir, Deonte Harty and rookie Justin Shorter.
Sherfield hasn't reached the 100-yard receiving mark since his rookie season back in 2018, but he boasts familiarity with coach Mike McDaniel's scheme after spending 2021 in San Francisco. Keeping in mind Miami's top-heavy wide receiver corps, however, it seems all but guaranteed that the bulk of Sherfield's contributions occur on special teams.
An undrafted free agent in 2018, Sherfield ended his rookie year with some decent tape, recording 19 catches (on 28 targets) for 210 yards and one touchdown across the last seven games. That was under a different coaching staff, though. With Kliff Kingsbury calling the shots last season, Sherfield had a spell from Weeks 4-8 as a regular in the offense. Otherwise, he was active every week but primarily contained to special teams. The Cardinals boast a top-heavy receiving corps composed of offseason acquisition DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald. Beyond that trio, second-year wideouts Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler and KeeSean Johnson likely have the inside track to any lingering snaps, which may make it difficult for Sherfield to land a spot on the 53-man roster.
An undrafted rookie last season, Sherfield worked his way into a Cardinals wide receiver rotation that was deficient in talent beyond Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk. Sherfield especially made an impact after the team's Week 9 bye, going for 7.5 YPT and a 67.9 percent catch rate on 28 targets. With a new coaching staff in town, GM Steve Keim made a point of addressing the position to suit Kliff Kingsbury's system, using draft picks on Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler and KeeSean Johnson. All three will have learning curves, though, which could give Sherfield a chance to contribute in the early parts of the campaign.

Could challenge for No. 3 role
WRMinnesota Vikings
July 18, 2024
Sherfield, who signed with the Vikings this offseason, could challenge for the team's open No. 3 receiver role this summer, Kevin Patra of NFL.com suggests.
ANALYSIS
The well-traveled veteran wideout has topped out at 30 receptions, 417 receiving yards and two touchdowns in terms of single-season highs, but he's proven durable and has solid size at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds. The formidable frame is complemented by impressive speed that Patra points out could be the key to Sherfield vaulting over incumbents Brandon Powell and Jalen Nailor for the No. 3 receiver role.
