2024 Fantasy Outlook
The 15th overall draft pick in 2021, Jones played his way out of New England after failing to progress from his somewhat promising rookie season. His average target depth (6.9) and YPA (6.1) were both bottom 5 in the league last year, and his interception rate (3.5 percent) was the highest. By Week 13 he had lost the starting job and by season’s end he had been demoted to third string. The Patriots traded him to Jacksonville in March where he will back up Trevor Lawrence. If Jones sees the field, he will at least have a talented supporting cast, but the lack of arm strength, athleticism and mobility caps his value, even in two-QB leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Modest numbers in finale
Jones completed 20 of 32 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 26-23 overtime loss to the Colts. He added 17 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
He connected with Parker Washington for a nine-yard score in the fourth quarter that tied the game at 20-20, although it nearly didn't count -- the wideout lost the ball just before the goal line but was ruled to have recovered it and gotten into the end zone before being downed. Jones saw significant action in eight straight games to close out the 2024 season, starting seven of them in place of Trevor Lawrence (shoulder), and the former Patriot completed 65.2 percent of his passes during that span with an 8:8 TD:INT and a 6.5 YPA. While those numbers were merely adequate, they could be good enough to earn him some attention from QB-needy teams this offseason as part of a free-agent class that figures to have little depth beyond Sam Darnold.

2021
After a promising rookie campaign, Jones disappointed last season. He was even benched for Bailey Zappe at one point and also missed three games with a high-ankle sprain. Instead of progressing, Jones took a slight step back in just about every category. He finished with only 14 TD passes in 14 games, eight fewer scores than he had his rookie year. His YPA dropped by a half yard to 6.8 as his on-target percentage and completion percentage dipped as well. He went downfield at a good clip -- 13.6 percent of his attempts were 20-plus yards, sixth in the league -- but he completed only 37.9 percent and had five interceptions, fourth most. All of which makes this a big year for Jones before the Patriots decide next spring if they want to pick up his fifth-year option for 2025. The team signed WR JuJu Smith-Schuster to replace the departed Jakobi Meyers and presumably play a lot of slot snaps, while DeVante Parker and 2022 second-round pick Tyquan Thornton return at wideout. At TE, the team added pass-catching tight end Mike Gesicki to run with Hunter Henry, after trading away Jonnu Smith. It's a subpar group of weapons, but the offensive line at least looks solid and Bill O’Brien’s return to New England as offensive coordinator might be the most important change after Matt Patricia and Joe Judge made a mess of things last season. If the system improves, Jones will benefit, just probably not enough to matter in fantasy.

Slated to start rest of season
Jones is expected to serve as the Jaguars' starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2024 season after Trevor Lawrence was placed on injured reserve Wednesday due to a concussion, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones started two games in Lawrence's stead in Weeks 10 and 11 when the latter was sidelined with a shoulder injury. He struggled in losses to the Vikings and Lions in those contests, but after being called upon off the bench following Lawrence's early exit in this past Sunday's loss to the Texans, Jones threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns while almost leading the Jaguars to a comeback win.
