2024 Fantasy Outlook
No player better represents the idea that just about any running back can thrive in Kyle Shanahan's offense than Mason. Undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2022, Mason has averaged 5.6 yards per carry for the 49ers, and while he lacks breakaway speed, his power and sheer refusal to go down have resulted in some impressive yards after contact in a small sample. The 49ers backfield seemingly got more crowded this offseason when they drafted Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round, but it ended up working out well for Mason when Guerendo and Elijah Mitchell both missed most of training camp with injuries. Mitchell was then place on season-ending injured reserve in late August, leaving Mason as the No. 2 running back behind Christian McCaffrey to start the season. Read Past Outlooks

Shoulder - AC Joint
October 14, 2024
Mason (shoulder) sported a non-contact jersey during Monday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Friday that Mason suffered an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder during this past Thursday's win over the Seahawks, while noting at the time that the running back is considered day-to-day. Look for added context regarding Mason's status to arrive no later than Wednesday's injury report, but his presence at Monday's session suggests that he has a chance to be available Sunday against the Chiefs.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Mason fought his way onto the 49ers' 53-man roster last preseason and suited up for 19 of the team's 20 games (including playoffs). The undrafted rookie spent most of the year on special teams, but he was able to get some run as a backup in the second half of the schedule. Mason performed particularly well over a three-game stretch from Weeks 13-15, when he accrued 171 rushing yards on just 23 attempts. The Georgia Tech product should return as San Francisco's third running back in 2023 behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Starter through Week 6
RBSan Francisco 49ers
October 5, 2024
With Christian McCaffrey not expected to return from injured reserve when eligible for Week 6 against the Seahawks, Mason will continue to serve as the 49ers' starting running back, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mason has been the 49ers' lead back in all four games this season as McCaffrey continues to rehab and seek treatment for tendinitis in both his Achilles. Mason has taken advantage of the opportunity, registering 100-plus rushing yards and one touchdown in three of four games this season. Mason has 19 or more carries in all four games, and he will continue to see the bulk of the work out of the backfield while McCaffrey is sidelined.
