Manziel signed a contract with the Alliance of American Football and has been claimed by the Memphis Express, Jason Munz of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.
ANALYSIS
Manziel was released by the Montreal Alouettes in late February after he committed an undisclosed violation of his CFL contract, thus finishing his time in the league with 1,290 passing yards, 215 rushing yards, five passing touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight games. He may eventually have a shot at playing time in Memphis, where Christian Hackenberg and Zach Mettenberger (ankle) have led the Express to a 1-5 start. Even if he does get his chance under center, Manziel is a long way from earning consideration for a return to the NFL.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2015
2014
Manziel struggled mightily in 2014, beaten out by Brian Hoyer in training camp and losing his only two starts. In about six quarters as a starter, Manziel completed 13-of-26 passes for 112 yards (4.31 YPA) and a 0:2 TD:INT ratio while adding just 16 yards on the ground (2.3 YPC). Then the tumultuous offseason began. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner spent about 10 weeks in rehab after checking himself in Jan. 28. Manziel is expected to attend all OTAs, but based on offensive tackle Joe Thomas' comments, regaining the trust and respect of his teammates and coaches will be a tall order. His questionable work ethic has been well-documented dating to college, and it became painfully clear last season that Manziel isn't athletic enough (4.68 40) to get by on raw talent. What made Johnny Football special at Texas A&M was his ability to break the pocket and make improvisational plays, either throwing on the move or picking up yardage with his legs. But as he learned last season, those windows close much quicker in the NFL. Manziel will continue to struggle if he can't improve as a pocket passer, a task hindered by his height and receiver group (Dwayne Bowe, Brian Hartline, Andrew Hawkins). Josh McCown, who signed a three-year deal this offseason, is the favorite to start.
Manziel will start the season behind Brian Hoyer, but we suspect that the arrangement will be a temporary one. In any case, Manziel would be a much more exciting fantasy prospect if it weren't for Josh Gordon's suspension, but that development leaves Manziel with the possibility of 5-foot-7 Andrew Hawkins as his most productive receiver. There won't be many passing touchdowns in Cleveland this year if that remains the case, but Manziel should put up big rushing numbers whenever he's on the field. He ran for 30 rushing touchdowns in 26 games at Texas A&M, and he ought to find room to run on bootleg plays in offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's run-heavy offense.

Happy off the field
QBFree Agent
June 29, 2020
Manziel said Saturday that he has most likely moved on from his football career, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
After having not played competitively in any league since the Alliance of American Football folded last spring, Manziel described his football career as "in the past." At only 27 years old, the 2014 first-round pick wouldn't be blamed for considering a comeback attempt, but it appears he's happy off the football field. He admitted that after being drafted by the Browns, he "didn't put in the time that (he) needed to be a great player and (didn't) think (his) heart was in it." He last played in the NFL in 2015, finishing that season with 1,500 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions across nine games.
