2024 Fantasy Outlook
Not much went right for the Jets in 2023, but the emergence of Johnson was one. After a quiet rookie season for the 2022 first-round pick, he more than doubled his defensive snap count and his production followed suit. Brought in to get after the quarterback, Johnson accomplished that goal by creating 56 total pressures (per PFF), good for a mark inside the top-25 in the league among edge rushers. Johnson also did enough as a run-stopper, tallying 20 tackles in the role. With Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers out of the picture, Johnson should have the chance to step into a leadership role along the defensive line and his production could take another jump forward in his third season as a pro. Officially placed on IR
The Jets placed Johnson (Achilles) on injured reserve Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Johnson is done for the year after suffering a torn right Achilles' tendon in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans, so his placement on IR doesn't come as a surprise. The standout defensive end's injury takes on particular severity for New York due to edge rusher Haason Reddick's ongoing holdout, but for the time being, Will McDonald and Micheal Clemons appear primed to start at defensive end Thursday versus the Patriots. Johnson will turn his full attention toward making a recovery for the 2025 season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Johnson was brought along slowly as a rookie, though he showed some flashes of the pass rushing potential that prompted the Jets to pick him 26th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. After finishing with 2.5 sacks in 2022, Johnson will push for more playing time in 2023, though he will have to earn it in a pass rushing rotation that added Will McDonald with the 15th overall pick in 2023 and is returning veterans Carl Lawson and John Franklin-Myers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could shift inside more
Johnson could see increased work on the interior of the defensive line in 2024, and Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic expects the 2022 first-round draft pick to take another step forward after making the Pro Bowl in 2023.
ANALYSIS
After a ho-hum rookie season, Johnson came into his own in his second NFL campaign, racking up 7.5 sacks and seven passes defensed, including an interception which he returned for a touchdown. The Jets are deep on the edge with 2023 first-round draft pick Will McDonald and offseason pickup Haason Reddick, so the versatile Johnson could shift to the inside more often in passing situations to generate additional pressure.
