Gilman parlayed a breakout 2023 campaign (73 tackles and two picks in 14 games) as the clear starting safety opposite Derwin James into a new two-year deal with the Chargers, reportedly worth $11 million. The surprise retirement of multi-year starter Nasir Adderley has opened the door for Gilman to earn a starting safety spot opposite Derwin James. The 2020 sixth-rounder played at least 35 snaps in all but one of the team's final six games, but much of the additional playing time had to do with dueling injuries to the aforementioned starters. Expect the 25-year-old to be in a fierce competition for significant playing time with 2023 third-round pick JT Woods throughout the preseason.
