Moves back to practice squad
Gilbert reverted to the Patriots' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was activated for game day for the second week in a row Sunday, as starting quarterback Mac Jones was unable to return from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 3. As a result, the 31-year-old Gilbert once again served as New England's backup quarterback behind Bailey Zappe with Brian Hoyer (concussion) out on IR. Gilbert is now eligible for one more elevation from New England's practice squad this season.

Drafted in the sixth round back in 2014, Gilbert came into the season with only six pass attempts on his NFL resume, but injury issues at quarterback for the Cowboys forced him into his first career start Week 9, and he held his own. The team is in the market for an affordable veteran backup to Dak Prescott, but if it can't find one, Gilbert will compete with Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Any snaps under center in the Dallas offense could be productive ones with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup on the other end of passes, but it would take another injury to Prescott to make Gilbert a viable fantasy option.
