Mannion received a handful of garbage time snaps for the Vikings in 2019 before getting a spot start Week 17 for a resting Kirk Cousins. The outing didn't go well - 12-for-21 passing for 126 yards and two picks - and while he was brought back on a one-year deal, Mannion has competition for the backup role from Jake Browning and, perhaps more importantly, 2020 seventh-round pick Nate Stanley.

Minnesota possesses one of the NFL's least enviable collections of second-string quarterback options, with Mannion, Kyle Sloter and rookie Jake Browning logging a combined one NFL start. Kirk Cousins hasn't missed a game since taking over as the starting quarterback for Washington at the beginning of the 2015 season, meaning it's not likely that Mannion will be thrown into action for anything more than mop-up duty. It would not be a promising outlook if he were to see significant playing time, going up against an inter-division schedule that includes the No. 1 scoring defense from last year in Chicago, Detroit with arguably the best defensive line in the NFL, as well as the Packers, who added Za'Darius Smith and Adrian Amos while investing first-round picks in Darnell Savage Jr. and Rashan Gary.

After being taken in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Mannion has just one start since Jared Goff was taken No. 1 overall the next year. Mannion is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he won't start in 2018 as long as Goff is healthy.

The 2015 third-round pick has appeared in just two games and attempted only 13 passes the past two seasons without a single start. Mannion projects to open 2017 as Jared Goff's backup, and if things go according to plan, Mannion won't see the field. The Rams had a league-worst passing and scoring offense last season, so even if Mannion is forced into duty, it isn't a favorable fantasy situation. Additionally, with the franchise committed to Goff, Mannion's long-term value is low with Los Angeles.

A third-round pick in 2015, Mannion threw for 31 yards on a 6-of-7 performance in one garbage time appearance in his rookie season. Mannion is in a tough spot, however, as Case Keenum and Jared Goff are ahead of him on the depth chart, and Nick Foles is still under contract. This is increasingly looking like a wasted pick for the Rams, as the chances of Mannion ever seeing the field in Los Angeles are slim, if he even makes the roster in 2016.

Mannion will likely need to fight for a spot on the Rams' 53-man roster, but the team spending a third-round selection on him bodes well for potential opportunities in the future. He’ll likely battle Austin Davis and/or Case Keenum for the third quarterback spot, but questions remain on starter Nick Foles' viability as a No. 1 quarterback. St. Louis is hoping they have found a pro-ready quarterback in the 6-foot-6 Mannion, but his prospects as a future starting quarterback are not that high.
