College Football DFS: Night Slate Week 4

It's time for the SEC to take the stage. Our night slate is dominated by performances from six teams in the conference, and that's going to result in a bit of guesswork as we try to project snap counts for impact players on these teams. The game offerings for FanDuel and DraftKings are identical for Saturday night.

Alabama @ Missouri (+28.5) O/U: 56.5

Tennessee @ South Carolina (+3.5) O/U: 43.5

Vanderbilt @ Texas A&M (-30.5) O/U: 43.5

Kansas @ Baylor (-17.5) O/U: 62

Florida State @ Miami (-12) O/U:53.5

North Carolina State @ Virginia Tech (-6.5) O/U:56.5

Troy @ BYU (-14.5) O/U: 60.5

We've got two potential blowouts on the slate, but there's probably value to be had with some backups for Alabama as they rotate out their starters in the second half. Although the spread is 12 points, I'm most intrigued by the targets in the MIA/FSU game.  Miami will attempt to build on their impressive win over Louisville in an effort to prove that they are the real deal and a force to be reckoned with in the ACC. We'll also dive into the Kansas and Baylor rosters to find targets due to Vegas' O/U predictions.

QUARTERBACK

D'Eriq King, Miami (DK $8,700, FD $10,200) @ Florida State

It's no surprise to see King at the top of the QB pile. He's a dual threat on every down and can burn defenses in a variety of ways. Usually, a runner like King would have some passing deficiencies, but he's equally adept in the pocket.  Maybe it was just the illusion of the opposing uniform, but he looked a lot like Lamar Jackson against Louisville last week.  Although he isn't as fast as Jackson and can't escape pressure with the same efficiency, he's got a rocket of an arm that can keep defenses on their heels. He'll be wildly popular on this slate, but he's worth every penny.

Charlie Brewer, Baylor (DK $7,900, FD $9,300) vs. Kansas

Brewer says he feels 100 percent after missing the end of his 2019 campaign due to a neck injury.  Durability has been an issue for Brewer, but his tenure as the Bears' signal-caller is exemplary. I would even venture to call him a geat value pick, even at his slightly elevated price. He's completed at least 60 percent of his passes in each of his three seasons and threw 21 touchdowns before he went down with an injury last season.

Zach Wilson, BYU (DK $6,900, FD $8,500) vs. Troy

Don't let Wilson's limited amount of passes in his last game (18) fool you.  He looked excellent against Navy and was pulled early. Had he stayed in the game, he would have almost certainly built on his 232-yard, two-touchdown performance. They play an inferior team once again this week, but the contest should be more competitive, and it'll likely keep Wilson on the field for three quarters. He's a great S-FLEX play for GPPs due to what could potentially be low-ownership on Saturday.

RUNNING BACK

Cam'Ron Harris, Miami (DK $8,300, FD $9,500) vs. Florida State

Rest assured, Harris will carry the rock early and often.  He's as safe as you'll get at this position because of his previous production, which was virtually identical in both of his games. He ran for 134 yarda against both UAB and Louisville and has three touchdowns over the two games. There are only two knocks on Harris in relation to his price tag. He's not an active pass-catcher, and he'll lose opportunities due to designed running plays for D'Eriq King. Otherwise, his safe floor makes him an excellent core cash play.

Raheem Blackshear, Virginia Tech (DK $5,600, FD $8,100) vs. N.C. State

Although most of the public will be on transfer Khalil Herbert, Blackshear is an interesting pivot. He also joins the Hokies as a transfer from Rutgers, where he took snaps at both running back and wide receiver.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Blackshear line up at the slot and also spell Herbert.  His upside is excellent, anf could end up as an overlooked value at the position.

Trey Sanders, Alabama (DK $4,000, FD $5,800) vs. Missouri

It's necessary to find value if we hope to hold on to high-dollar targets like King and Harris, so it makes sense to take a look at what the Crimson Tide might throw out once this game gets out of hand. The staff will be curious to see how Sanders fares at full speed after a foot injury sidelined him last season. Acording to reports, the injury is behind him and he's looked great in practice, so he's a pretty reasonable option as Nick Saban brings in the backups.

WIDE RECEIVER

Tyquan Thornton, Baylor (DK $6,600, FD $8,300) vs. Kansas

With Denzel Mims off to the NFL, Thornton is now the top wideout for the Bears. I like Brewer and Thornton as a great stack Saturday, as a lot of the public will follow wideouts who have already proven themselves in real game scenarios.  The lower rostership is going to be with the teams that have yet to play, and I think this duo will find each other frequently against the Jayhawks.

Shi Smith, South Carolina (DK $5,600, FD $7,800) vs. Tennessee

I'm not completely sold on going with Collin Hill at quarterback, but I have no problem rolling with Smith. After transferring from Colorado State, Hill was good enough to outplay Ryan Hilinski in training camp to win the starting job. One should assume that as the top wideout on the team, Smith will see better numbers with an upgrade at quarterback. He's had an excellent career in Columbia and will take on a heavier load in his senior year.

Brevin Jordan, Miami (DK $5,900, FD $8,600) vs. Florida State

I've gone with Jordan every week and he's yet to let me down. Although he's a tight end, he's one of the best players in the country at the position and will definitely find himself on an NFL roster next year. D'Eriq King managed to find him for at least one big play in the first two games of the season, and he's a reasonable bet to get his third touchdown in three games against the Seminoles secondary.

In trying to fill out lineups, the crowd of elites like King and Harris forces you to make some value plays at the FLEX or perhaps the S-FLEX.  For my money, Velton Gardner (DK $4,900, FD $7,300) is a great value play for these roster slots. Pooka Williams is the bellcow back for Kansas, but Williams could see be limited with the injury that sidelined him against Coastal Carolina.  Gardner rushed 11 times for 81 yards in the game and has likely earned increased snaps.  

If you're inclined to go low at quarterback in the S-FLEX position, I think that TCU transfer Shawn Robinson (DK $5,000, FD $6,800) is going to get the lion's share of snaps for Missouri against Alabama over Connor Bazelak.  Both QBs will play so it's definitely a high-variance call, but it's an excellent way to get unique in GPP builds.
