Minnesota 3 – Seattle 2
W: Joe Nathan (2-1) L: Steve Delabar (1-1)
SB: Dustin Ackley (6), Kyle Seager (2), Michael Saunders (6)
CS: Chris Gimenez (1), Danny Valencia (6)
- Rene Tosoni hit a game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to get the Twins their first win after an 11-game losing streak. Tosoni had three hits while his teammates could only muster five.
-Starters Blake Beavan (7.0 innings) and Anthony Swarzak (6.0 innings) each gave up two earned runs. Beavan (a piece of the Cliff Lee deal) is an interesting player to look at for next season. Surprisingly, he has a worse home ERA (4.08) than road ERA (3.66) so it's not like his overall 3.82 ERA is a product of Safeco.
Washington 6 – Philadelphia 1
W: Brad Peacock (2-0) L: Roy Oswalt (8-10)
HR: Michael Morse (28)
SB: Roger Bernadina (17)
- I'm starting to think Brad Peacock is for real. The Nationals have a ton of upside going forward and Peacock would be an awesome fit as a #4ish starter.
- Michael Morse is going to be a tough guy to rank next season. If you have to choose between him and Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, Billy Butler or Carlos Pena, who do you go with and why?
Baltimore 6 – Detroit 5
W: Zach Britton (11-10) L: David Pauley (5-6) S: Kevin Gregg (21)
HR: J.J. Hardy (29), Adam Jones (24), Delmon Young (10)
SB: Adam Jones (12)
- Zach Britton is totally a guy you need to make a late round sleeper pick for next season. The AL East is arguably the worst place to pitch but the fact that he's a lefty should help.
- Adam Jones is up to a 24-homer, 12-steal season at a .284 batting average. He's 26 and just turned that, can he build on this next season?
Cleveland 11 – Chicago 2
W: Jeanmar Gomez (5-2) L: Philip Humber (9-9)
HR: Kosuke Fukudome (8) Jason Kipnis (7), Asdrubal Cabrera (25)
SB: Ezequiel Carrera (10)
- The Indians jumped all over Philip Humber who has given up 12 earned runs over his last two starts (12 innings).
- Where does Asdrubal Cabrera end up on your depth chart next season when considering shortstops?
New York 8 – St. Louis 6
W: Manny Acosta (4-1) L: Marc Rzepczynski (2-6) S: Bobby Parnell (6)
HR: Allen Craig (9), Albert Pujols (37)
SB: Angel Pagan (32)
- The Mets rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth inning to get past the Cardinals. Jason Motte was wild, recording only one out and walking three batters who all ended up scoring.
- Albert Pujols safely reached base for the 38th straight game. That's not the longest streak this season; who owns the 39-game streak for safely reaching base?
Tampa Bay 15 – New York 8
W: Matthew Moore (1-0) L: Bartolo Colon (8-10)
HR: B.J. Upton (22), Johnny Damon (15), Ben Zobrist (17), Andruw Jones (12)
- The story of the game was Matthew Moore, who struck out 11 Yankees in only five innings. Overall the Yankees struck out 15 times which was a season-high. I know the Rays have a tendency to wait on calling players up but wouldn't it be smart to sign Matthew Moore to a long term deal this offseason and keep him up from the get-go next season if they want to compete?
- While he's striking out a third of the time, Andruw Jones has 12 home runs in only 180 at-bats. He could play a factor if the Yankees meet the Phillies in the World Series. B.J. Upton missed the cycle by a double.
Houston 9 – Colorado 3
W: Henry Sosa (3-5) L: Alex White (3-3) S: Mark Melancon (20)
HR: Kevin Kouzmanoff (5), Wilin Rosario (3)
SB: Eric Young Jr. (25), Brian Bogusevic (4)
CS: Eric Young Jr. (4), Jimmy Paredes (4)
- Wilin Rosario is up to three homers and seven RBIs in the first 12 games of his big league career.
- Bud Norris will not make his scheduled Sunday after being diagnosed with biceps tendonitis. Todd Helton is out for the rest of the season according to skipper Jim Tracy.
Oakland 4 – Texas 3
W: Grant Balfour (5-2) L: Mike Adams (4-4) S: Andrew Bailey (21)
HR: Jemile Weeks (1)
SB: Coco Crisp (43), Ian Kinsler (27)
CS: Elvis Andrus (12)
- Jemile Weeks missed the cycle by a triple but managed to hit his first big-league home run. Given his prowess on the base paths, he should be a interesting guy to rank next season.
Toronto 4 – Los Angeles 3 (12)
W: Shawn Camp (5-3) L: Garrett Richards (0-2)
HR: Alberto Callaspo (6), Eric Thames (12), Edwin Encarnacion (17)
SB: Kelly Johnson (16)
- The Angels didn't help their playoff chances after Edwin Encarnacion hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 12th inning.
- Torii Hunter, Vernon Wells and Mark Trumbo combined to go 0-for-15.
Los Angeles 8 – San Francisco 2
W: Hiroki Kuroda L: Madison Bumgarner (12-13)
HR: Matt Kemp (36), Juan Rivera (11), Carlos Beltran (21), Pablo Sandoval (23)
CS: Dee Gordon (7)
- Hiroki Kurorda tossed seven innings of two-run ball and now has a 3.17 ERA. It'll be interesting to see what he gets in a limited free agent market in the offseason.
- Matt Kemp added to his MVP credentials going 4-for-5 and falling a triple short of the cycle. He doesn't get the MVP in my opinion given the Dodgers record.
