- The big news from this game was Francisco Liriano, who left the game after two innings with a shoulder strain. Immediately after the game the Twins placed him on the 15-day DL and there's probably a decent chance he doesn't pitch again this season.

- Mark Reynolds dealt the death blow with a three-run homer in the seventh inning to put the Twins away. Don't look now but the Orioles have won four games in a row.

Atlanta 8 – Chicago 3

- Brandon Beachy held the Cubs to two runs over six innings, striking out six and walking none. Four errors didn't help the Cubs effort which led to three of the six runs Matt Garza gave up being unearned.

- Brian McCann had gone 0-for-13 before hitting two bombs at Wrigley. That's four straight seasons for McCann of hitting at least 21 home runs.

Detroit 2 – Tampa Bay 0

- Doug Fister was brilliant, tossing seven scoreless innings and striking out six without issuing a walk. He lowered his ERA to 3.35 and could have a reverse record next season with improved run support.

- Evan Longoria missed the golden sombrero by one strikeout. Coming into the game Longoria was only hitting .250 for the month but has eight home runs and 21 RBI. Besides the disappointing batting average he's also stopped running this season, attempting only two steals after swiping 15 bags last year.

New York 22- Oakland 9

W: Boone Logan (4-2) L: Fautino De Los Santos (2-1)
HR: Cliff Pennington (6), Scott Sizemore (6), Russell Martin 2 (17), Andruw Jones (10), Robinson Cano (22), Curtis Granderson (36)
SB: Jemile Weeks 2 (16)

- People went to the Bronx to see a baseball game and a football game broke out. The Yankees set a record with three grand slams and there was the opportunity for more. The crazy short right field porch saw a few of the Yankees home runs (Martin and Granderson's) just clear the wall.

- Despite going 3-for-6, Derek Jeter left nine men on base.

- The A's as a team gave up 13 walks in the game. Fautino De Los Santos, Jordan Norberto and Bruce Billings combined to give up 14 earned runs over 2.1 innings (a 60.0 ERA).

- Curtis Granderson has 36 home runs and 24 stolen bases. Matt Kemp has 29 home runs and 33 stolen bases. Which player would you draft first next season?

- If you're in a very liberal fantasy league eligibility-wise, Jorge Posada played second base and Nick Swisher played first base. The last out of the game was an adventure.

Arizona 8 – Washington 1

- While the DC area has been hit with an earthquake and waits for a hurricane, there is still baseball to be played. Wade Miley pitched out of some bad situations to pick up his first major league win.

- Why Paul Goldschimdt sits for Lyle Overbay is beyond me. I'd love to know Kirk Gibson's logic behind that call.

Kansas City 9 – Toronto 6

W: Jeff Francis (5-14) L: Brett Cecil (4-7)
HR: Edwin Encarnacio (13), J.P. Arencibia (20), Melky Cabrera (17)

- Melky Cabrera missed the cycle by a triple and the Royals tallied five RBI with two outs to snag the win.

- J.P. Arencibia continues to be a feast or famine player, swatting his 20th home run but batting .213.

Boston 6 – Texas 0

W: Andrew Miller (6-1) L: Alexi Ogando (12-6)

- Adrian Gonzalez is currently one of the hottest hitter's you'll find and the Red Sox smashed a total of four home runs off starter Alexi Ogando. Ogando had given up four home runs total over his previous eight starts.

- Mike Napoli and Josh Hamilton combined to go 0-for-7 with six strikeouts.

St. Louis 8 – Pittsburgh 4

W: Edwin Jackson (10-9) L: Charlie Morton (9-7)
HR: Matt Holliday (19)
SB: Allen Craig (5), Xavier Paul (15), Chase D'Arnaud (8)

- While the total is way down from last season, Albert Pujols was IBB'd twice during the game.

- This was easily Charlie Morton's worst outing of August. The hurler came into the game with a 0.95 ERA and a 50:31 GB:FB ratio for the month.

Houston 3 – San Francisco 1

- The Astros continue to be an interesting fantasy squad, running on the base paths and taking games from contenders. Eli Whiteside was victimized for four stolen bases and the Giants dropped to three games back in their division.

- I'll be curious to see who gets the next clear-cut save situation for San Francisco. Jeremy Affeldt worked .2 innings in the eighth after appearing to be the closer in an extra innings win over the weekend.
