The Italian forward got his first taste of NBA action in 2019-20, where he enjoyed modest success with the Pelicans. The 28-year-old averaged 6.6 points, 3.0 boards, 1.4 assists and 1.2 triples across 17.4 minutes per contest. Melli started eight games, but his production in those contests wasn't much better than his games off the bench. Melli's playing time was likely inflated in his first season due to Zion Williamson's limitations and late start, but Williamson is expected to be fully healthy to start the 2020-21 season. Known as a three-point specialist, Melli didn't live up to the billing for the most part, as he shot just 33.5 percent from beyond the arc, though he did flash throughout the season. He's not a guy to target in most redraft formats, and he's likely a guy you'll want to consider as a value play in daily lineups if Williamson is forced to miss time and Melli gets a spot start.
A 28-year-old out of Italy, Melli signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Pelicans over the summer. He's been playing professionally overseas since 2010-11, and he most recently appeared in 78 games (68 starts) for Fenerbahce Ulker. In EuroLeague contests, he averaged 7.3 points on 5.9 shots, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25.9 minutes. He projects as a three-point threat at the NBA level, as he's cracked at least 40 percent from distance in each of the past four seasons. It's possible he earns reserve power forward minutes behind Zion Williamson, but he'll be competing against the likes of Darius Miller, Brandon Ingram, Derrick Favors and Kenrich Williams. Either way, it seems unlikely Melli will end up with standard league relevance, and he's even a risky deep league selection
