Kadeem Allen continues to be a star in the G League, but his time in the NBA has remained limited. Allen averaged 15.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists across 31.8 minutes per game with the Westchester Knicks last season and parlayed that into making 19 appearances with New York. He was solid in his time with the NBA Knicks, averaging 9.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists across 22 minutes per game. Unfortunately for Allen, the Knicks bolstered their depth in the backcourt, and he may end up seeing even less playing time this season, especially since New York is expected to at least try and be competitive this season. With the additions of R.J. Barrett and Elfrid Payton to go along with Frank Ntilikina's breakout summer with the France national team, Allen will likely once again see majority of his floor time in the G League.
In the NBA, one rarely hears the phrase “24-year-old rookie”, but that’s the label Allen will be facing while spending most of this season with Boston’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. The Arizona product is buried on the depth chart as the fifth shooting guard for the Celtics. The defensive oriented Allen will face a stiff challenge of proving himself within one of the deeper rosters in the Association. That said, Boston’s three-for-one trade for Kyrie Irving does free up some potential minutes for Allen and fellow rookie Semi Ojeleye. Still, No. 3 overall pick Jayson Tatum will be the coaching staff’s number one development priority. Between Allen’s defensive focus and high hurdles towards minutes, Allen is Fantasy relevant in only the deepest of keeper leagues.
