Kieschnick cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
With no team willing to take a flier on Kieschnick after he was designated for assignment last week, the 27-year-old will head to Salt Lake to serve as organizational depth. Kieschnick has hit .276/.339/.508 in parts of three seasons at Triple-A, but has done little to speak of in his 63 career games at the major league level (.200/.265/.248).

Opportunities to play at the big league level have been difficult to come by for Kieschnick. Most of his chances have come as a left-handed bat off the bench, split between the last two seasons with the Giants and Diamondbacks. That 63-game sample has translated to a .200/.265/.248 line with 45 strikeouts in 136 plate appearances, suggesting that he's overmatched against top-level arms. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, the left-handed-hitting Kieschnick may simply need more consistent playing time to prove he can hack it as a big leaguer, but he's declined at the Triple-A level since debuting there with Fresno in 2012. Further, the combined .276/.339/.508 line over 1,073 plate appearances in the Pacific Coast League is much less impressive when considering the hitter-friendly nature of the circuit and that Kieschnick amassed those numbers between his age-25 through age-27 seasons.
