Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday's main MLB slate begins at 7:05 PM Eastern time and features nine games. Below, you'll find which individual pitchers and hitters are primed to provide the best value, as well as the top lineup stacking options in this slate.

Pitching Overview

Plenty of owners are likely to pay up for the top arms in this slate, but there are also some enticing cheaper guys for those who prefer to spend big on bats.

The battle of left-handed strikeout artists in Arizona is likely to yield plenty of fantasy points both ways, though the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw ($54, 27.1 percent strikeout rate) obviously represents a safer option than Robbie Ray ($41, 31.0 percent strikeout rate) of the D-backs.

Padres' lefty Joey Lucchesi ($38) is an intriguing option in San Francisco, having managed a respectable 4.11 ERA, 4.02 FIP and 23.1 percent strikeout rate while the Giants own the league's second-worst home offense at 3.42 runs per game.

Texas's Brock Burke ($35) comes in as another affordable lefty likely to provide strong bang for the buck. He'll take on a Mariners' offense that strikes out the third-most in the league after allowing just one run over 12 innings through his first two starts.

Value Plays/Chalk

The Red Sox, Rockies and Orioles are all primed to capitalize on favorable hitting conditions, but there's also value to be found outside of those three stackable lineups.

White Sox' first baseman Jose Abreu ($19) has been hot recently, and he's pummeled left-handed pitching all season to the tune of a .414 wOBA. His success should continue against Atlanta's Dallas Keuchel.

Dodgers' third baseman Justin Turner ($21) is another streaking slugger, as he's gone deep three times in the past week and brings a .373 wOBA against lefties into this matchup with Ray.

If you can afford him, Nationals' outfielder Juan Soto ($27) should be worth paying up for at home against Marlins' righty Pablo Lopez. Soto's wOBA against righties sits well over .400.

Stacks

Red Sox vs. Dillon Peters (Angels)

J.D. Martinez (OF - $27), Sam Travis (1B - $12), Christian Vazquez (C - $14)

Right-handed hitters haven't had much trouble producing against Peters by posting a .373 wOBA. Martinez ranks among the league's best hitters against lefties with a wOBA over .500, Travis' wOBA in that split exceeds .350, and Vazquez is at .370 and fills the light-hitting catcher position.

Rockies vs. Joe Musgrove (Pirates)

Charlie Blackmon (OF - $20), Ryan McMahon (2B - $18), Trevor Story (SS - $24)

The Rockies should take advantage of Coors Field's league-leading 1.44 park factor against Musgrove with his 4.67 ERA and 4.44 xFIP. Blackmon's home wOBA registers just below .500 and possesses the platoon advantage as a left-handed batter. McMahon also enjoys the platoon advantage and a home wOBA over .380. Story's home wOBA in righty-on-righty matchups is over .460, and the shortstop has recently been alternating leadoff duties with Blackmon.

Orioles vs. Jorge Lopez (Royals)

Anthony Santander (OF - $17), Jonathan Villar (SS - $27), Trey Mancini (OF - $20)

Left-handed batters have dominated Lopez all season, producing a .406 wOBA over a 205-hitter sample. While the Orioles are rarely thought of as a team to stack, this is a good time to make an exception. The switch-hitting Santander has been money in the bank since mid-July, thanks to an OPS of nearly .900. Villar is another switch-hitter and boasts a wOBA from the left side over .350, which is why he usually leads off against righties. While Mancini lacks the platoon advantage his teammates possess, Baltimore's best hitter owns a wOBA over .360 in righty-on-righty matchups this season.
