Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

There's a lot of rain in Monday's forecast so make sure to consider that when selecting a lineup. I tried to avoid it in most areas and that led me to the highest-priced pitcher on the slate playing in a dome.

PITCHER

Luis Severino, NYY at TB ($58): I didn't want to spend this much on Severino, but with rain possible at multiple locations, he's the smart play in Tropicana. He had 41.5 fantasy points against the Rays a month ago (8 IP) and 30.6 in a start back in April (7.1 IP). Tampa hasn't improved much with a 23.3 K%, .143 ISO and .313 wOBA against righties in the last month.

Jacob deGrom, NYM vs. SD ($54): After Sunday's postponement, deGrom got his start pushed back so he'll get a favorable matchup against San Diego. He's been excellent with at least six strikeouts in his last 11 starts and 30 fantasy points in his last two. The Padres are the opposite of excellent with a 26.8 K%, 104 ISO and .280 wOBA against righties over the last month. Rick Porcello ($44) is a cheaper option pending on the rain, while Sean Newcomb ($37) is more of a gamble.

CATCHER

Devin Mesoraco, NYM vs. SD ($7): Outside of price, Mesoraco doesn't have many enticing numbers, although a career .344 wOBA against southpaws is usable. It should work against Eric Lauer, who has been all over the place this year from a near complete game against the Dodgers to only two innings against the Cubs last time out. Either way, he has a 4.87 ERA and .362 wOBA allowed to righty bats.

FIRST BASE

John Hicks, DET at KC ($13): It's not that I want to start any Tigers against a righty, but it'll be hard to pass up anyone against Heath Fillmyer. The righty hurler allowed eight hits and four runs in his only start (4.1 IP) against the Red Sox and hasn't looked much better in four other appearances this year. Hicks is one of the few Tigers getting on base with a .345 BABIP against righties.

SECOND BASE

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., TOR vs. MIN ($9): Gurriel returned from the DL on Sunday and picked up where he left before the break with a fifth-straight multi-hit game. His numbers are worse against lefties this year, but he's cheap and hasn't faced Adalberto Mejia yet. The lefty was rocked for six hits and four runs in his first start on June 30 and there's little reason to trust him after last season's .350 wOBA allowed to righty bats.

THIRD BASE

Matt Chapman, OAK at TEX ($13): Chapman's held decent power in his two seasons with a .184 ISO and .324 wOBA. Those aren't great numbers, but Cole Hamels is in a funk having allowed 28 hits and 18 runs in his last four starts. Even worse is that those starts came against the Orioles, Tigers, White Sox and Padres.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK at TEX ($13): Semien has shown more power against lefties throughout his career with a .187 ISO and .333 wOBA. Similar to Chapman, he comes cheap and can capitalize against Hamels. The veteran southpaw has a brutal 1.91 HR/9 and .340 wOBA allowed to righty bats this season.

OUTFIELD

Joey Gallo, TEX vs. OAK ($19): Gallo is usually a good place to go whenever a struggling pitcher faces the Rangers. He has 24 homers (16 vs. righties) and that's about all he does. Brett Anderson couldn't make it four innings last time out and has a 1.50 HR/9 against 82 righties faced after a .351 wOBA allowed last season. If his ankle injury sustained on Sunday keeps him out, look to Shin-soo Choo ($26) or Willie Calhoun ($10).

Jorge Bonifacio, KC vs. DET ($14): There aren't many bats to suggest from the Royals, but Bonifacio is at least getting on base with a .368 BABIP. It's unknown how Francisco Liriano will look after leaving last start with a sore back (allowed seven runs to the Rays in the outing before that). No matter, Liriano has a 5.30 xFIP and .362 wOBA allowed to righties this year.

Leonys Martin, DET at KC ($9): Martin came off the DL after the All-Star break so his price is at a nice spot after being up near $18 before pulling a hammy. He's been great against righties with 20 extra-base hits (7 HR) and a .352 wOBA. Fillmyer hasn't shown much in his five appearances for the Royals and that's seen in a .419 OBP allowed to 31 righties faced.
